"It's a boy!" proclaimed the nurse, breaking through the air of exhaustion in the hospital room. As the newborn was cleaned, his green-haired mother couldn't hold back tears of joy for the new life she had brought into the world.
"You did it, Inko, you did it!" cheered the black-haired man identified as her husband. Inko looked up at him, her fatigue overridden by a big smile. The nurse handed the baby to Inko, who, surprisingly, wasn't crying but peacefully sleeping.
"What are you two going to name your son?" the nurse inquired.
The new parents exchanged thoughtful looks before settling on a name. "Izuku... Izuku Midoriya," Inko announced, gazing down at the peacefully slumbering baby.
Fast forward four years, and in a room filled with lunching kids, a black-haired boy and an ash blonde kid stood out, but not for the best reasons. The ash blonde mischievously poured his drink onto the black-haired boy's head.
"What was that, Deku! You think you're gonna get a better quirk than mine?" the blonde kid taunted.
The now drenched boy wiped his face and retorted, "First off, my name is Midoriya to you, not Deku. And all I said was, hopefully, my quirk is as good as yours, Bakugo."
"It doesn't matter, Deku. You tried to compare yourself to me, and no one can compare themselves to me. I'm gonna be the number 1 hero, and you, along with the rest of the extras, are going to be my stepping stones to the top," Bakugo boasted, slamming his hand in front of Midoriya's face before strutting off.
Midoriya sighed tiredly, rising to clean himself up. As the school day concluded, Inko arrived to pick up Midoriya for his quirk appointment.
"Hey sweetie, are you ready to find out your quirk?" Inko asked enthusiastically.
"I guess, hopefully it's interesting," Midoriya replied in a bored tone. Inko awkwardly laughed in response, and they drove off to the doctor.
Arriving at the clinic, Inko filled out paperwork while Midoriya noticed a vending machine. After getting a five-dollar bill from his mom, a tingling sensation ran through his hand as he touched it. Approaching the vending machine, he suddenly felt light-headed, his ears ringing. Stumbling back, Inko expressed concern.
"Izuku, are you all right?" she asked.
Holding his head, Midoriya couldn't respond; his body seemed to be shutting down. Eventually, he collapsed, and as darkness closed in, he caught a glimpse of his worried mom beside him.
In an unknown place, Midoriya woke up surrounded by pitch blackness. A strange man appeared, assuring him he wasn't dead.
"Am I dead?" Midoriya wondered.
"Not that I'm aware of," the man responded. Midoriya turned around, only to see the man vanish. Startled, he searched his surroundings but found nothing.
"I'm right here," the man's voice echoed.
About to turn around, Midoriya was swept off his feet, facing another black-haired man.
"Look, I'm gonna cut straight to the chase, okay? You're... drum rolls, please, badadada... quirkless!" the man excitedly revealed.
