Chapter: 8

"Mom, I'm heading out now!" Midoriya called to his mother.

"Alright, Izuku, be safe. Take your coat, gloves, and scarf. It's going to be cold today," Inko advised.

"No worries, I've got them. Anyway, see you after school, Mom," Midoriya said, closing the door behind him.

Midoriya strolled toward school, hands tucked into his pockets to shield them from the cold. As he entered the school grounds, he sensed the curious glances and smirks from his peers. Being quirkless, he knew they would make the last day of school challenging. The label 'Deku,' synonymous with useless, stuck to him like a scar. Approaching the school entrance, a familiar voice called his name.

"HEY DEKU!" Bakugo's yell echoed.

Midoriya sighed, recognizing Bakugo's signature aggression, but he continued walking, ignoring the angry blonde.

"DEKU, I KNOW YOU HEARD ME! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, HUH?" Bakugo screamed again.

Once more, Midoriya brushed off the taunts, provoking Bakugo to run after him. Catching up, Bakugo grabbed Midoriya's shoulder, releasing smoke from his hand. Irritated, Midoriya swatted Bakugo's hand away, turning to face him.

"What do you want, Bakugo?" Midoriya asked with a cool demeanor.

"Who the hell do you think you are talking to like that, nerd? Do you have a death wish!?" Bakugo exclaimed.

"If you're not going to tell me why you stopped me, have a nice day," Midoriya said, patting Bakugo on the shoulder before walking away.

Bakugo seethed with anger, restrained only by the presence of his goons. Shooting one last glare at Midoriya, he vowed to deal with him later. The day continued with Midoriya enduring the usual mockery, but it was the final class that brought things to a head.

"Good afternoon, class. Today, we'll discuss your future career choices. I know we should save this for the end of the year, but a head start won't hurt. I'll be handing out the papers, so write down whatever career captures your interest," the teacher declared.

The class buzzed with excitement. Midoriya, immersed in a book, and Bakugo, bored by the proceedings, awaited their papers. Instead, papers flew through the air as the teacher admitted their collective desire to become heroes.

"So, since you haven't applied to any schools yet in your 2nd year, I'll ask if you have any school in mind. Come up and share it with the class. Introduce yourself as well, okay, guys?" the teacher instructed.

"Okay!" the class replied.

Students shared their plans until it was Bakugo and Midoriya's turn. Bakugo, brimming with confidence, declared his intent to attend NUA with grandiosity, but skepticism echoed through the class.

"Doesn't that school have a 7% acceptance rate?" a student questioned.

"There's no way he's making it in there," another chimed in.

"Bakugo, are you sure about this?" a third added.

Midoriya, smirking at the doubt, stood up next.

"My name is Izuku Midoriya, and I want to go to NUA," he declared in a bored tone.

Silence engulfed the class, replaced by laughter. The teacher tried to quell the ridicule, but Midoriya was ready to sit when a loud explosion erupted.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY, DEKU!" Bakugo roared, mini-explosions in his hand.

"Not again, Bakugo," Midoriya said coldly.

"And how do you plan on doing that with no quirk, dumbass?" Bakugo sneered, advancing.

"By taking the exam and passing. You should really read up on the school's website before applying," Midoriya retorted mockingly.

Growing angrier, Bakugo grabbed Midoriya by the collar, escalating the confrontation. Unfazed, Midoriya smirked.

"You better think of another school to apply to because I'm going to be the only one from this shitty school to get into N.U.A, you got that?" Bakugo threatened.

"I don't feel like it," Midoriya smirked.

The class, surprised by Midoriya's boldness, watched the teacher try to diffuse the situation. Bakugo, undeterred, mentioned a way for Midoriya to acquire a quirk that stunned the class. Before he could say more, chalk hit Bakugo's face, thrown by the angered teacher. As Bakugo was sent to the office, the teacher apologized to Midoriya. Ignoring the apology, Midoriya returned to his desk, and the day ended without further incidents.

Late into the evening, Midoriya, one of the few students remaining, helped teachers and visited the counseling office. As he left, the teacher who sent Bakugo to the office stopped him.

"Midoriya, wait!" the teacher called.

"How's it going to teach, you got something to say?" Midoriya asked.

"I heard you're moving, and I wanted to say a few things before you leave," the teacher said.

"I'm listening," Midoriya replied, hands in his pockets against the chilly breeze.

"You can do it! I believe you can make it into N.U.A. Being quirkless doesn't matter. With compassion, you can do anything. We live in a world where the impossible is possible. So, Izuku Midoriya, you too can become a hero," the teacher said confidently.

Midoriya, shocked and moved, looked up at his teacher, breaking into his first genuine smile at the middle school. Thanking the teacher, he left for home, a joyful expression on his face. Entering the kitchen, he dropped his bag and, resting his chin on the table, muffledly told his mom, "Hey, Mom, I think I just made my first fan."

"What was that, Izuku?" Inko asked Midoriya.
