Valka POV

“Hi, mom,” My son greeted me.
I couldn’t believe it. He was here. My baby boy was standing in front of me. But he has grown up into a handsome young man.
I lifted my hand and gently placed it on Hiccup's cheek, just to make sure this was real. But I smiled when I felt his warm cheek and tears of pure happiness came out my eyes. He smiled too and his eyes started to get shiny and we both hugged each other tightly, not ever wanting to let go.
“Hiccup,” I choked out and hugged him tighter.
“It’s ok, mom,” he replied, “I’m here. I’m here.”
I smiled and pulled away from him and took a better look at him. Rust-red T-shirt, brown jeans and converse. He also had some lean muscles on him now and was taller then I remembered. Then he got handsomer than I remembered. Strong jaw line and a clean shaven face.
“Look at you,” I exclaimed, “So handsome and so grown up.”
He smiled and said, “Thank you mom.” Then I dog barked happily and he looked down towards a pure black husky. “Mom, this is Toothless.”
The dog was sitting next to my son, with his head slightly tilted to the side and was giving me curious eyes. I knelt down and scratched him behind his ears and said, “He’s beautiful.” Toothless tail started to wave and he closed his eyes due to the feeling.
After a second, I stopped and stood straight up and looked up at Hiccup. He smiled at Toothless and nodded. The dog stood up and then curiously walked into the house, but that really didn’t matter to me. I just was happy to have my son back and needed to apologise to him.
I hugged him again and immediately started to apologise, “I’m so sorry Hiccup. I should have never left. I was just so stupid and thought I was doing the right thing-”
He hugged me back and interrupted me, “Hey, hey. Sssh, it’s ok mom. I’m here and I’m fine.”
“No, Hiccup,” I admitted stubbornly, “You were one of the most important things in my life and I wasn’t there for you, when I should have been. I forgot about the most happiest part of my life and when you ran away, I realised my mistake. I’m so sorry, I was such a terrible mother. Please, could you ever forgive me and give me a second chance?”
At this moment tears were streaming down my face and I couldn’t hold my emotions anymore. Hiccup pulled slightly away so that he could stare in my face. He had a serious face on and said, “Mom, there is nothing to forgive. And I will forever be your son, so of course.”
I smiled and hugged him as tight as I could and whispered, “Thank you, Hiccup. Thank you.” I kept on hugging him, while whispering “thank you,” as tears of pure joy streamed down my face. I even said a silent prayer of thanks for my son coming back home and kept enjoying the feeling of him in my arms.
We stood there for a few minutes, until Stoick voice said, “Val, what is this dog doing inside of ou-ou-our house.”
I pulled away from Hiccup and turned around and looked at my husband while wiping the tears away with my apron and croaked out, “What?”
When the tears were out of my eyes, I saw Stoick standing in the hallway staring at Hiccup, with an open mouth and a look of disbelief and shock on his face.
There was a moment of silence, before Hiccup said, “Hi, dad.”
I turned my head towards Hiccup and he showed a face that was neutral. But in a wink, Stoick moved and pulled Hiccup into a bone crushing hug and laughed and said, “Welcome home, son.”
Hiccup’s arms were clamped to his sides and he struggled to get them out, while he was lifted into the air. “Thanks…. Dad…. air?” he managed to say after a moment.
Stoick laughed and hugged him a bit tighter and I was honestly scared that he might actually crush our son. But he then let him go and said, “Come, come, let’s go inside.”
He then put his hand on Hiccup’s back and pushed him into the house. And Hiccup, still trying to catch his breath, walked into the house. I smiled at the sight of my boy and walked back into the house and closed the door.
And instantly I smelled the food. “Oh, shoot,” I said, and Hiccup looked up at me worried, “I forgot about the food. I have to finish it.”
He smiled a bit and nodded and said, “Ok-”
But was interrupted when Stoick said, “It’s ok, Val. You can quickly finish cooking, while we talk a bit in the living room. Right, Hiccup?”
Stoick turned towards Hiccup and he smiled and replied, “Sure dad.”
I smiled a bit and said, “Ok.” I then walked over to Hiccup and gave him a quick kiss on the head and stared into his forest green eyes for a second before turning around and walking into the kitchen to finish cooking.
