Yes, Neji did compensate for his unconventional proposal by surprising Tenten beautifully after work that day. Their engagement was the hot topic at the office throughout the day.
It should be because Tenten's engagement ring was a strand of her fiancés hair. It was hilarious but weirdly romantic.
They parted ways with a kiss and a hug like every other day after work so Tenten was not expecting it when somebody covered her eyes with their palms when she was almost at her house. She didn't fret for she recognized the person's scent before she even saw him.
"Guess who?"
Because her back was pressed directly to his chest, his voice vibrated through her body with pleasant thrills. He definitely felt the shivers. She grinned and pretended to think for a while.
"Hmm...that voice, that scent, the hair that is tickling my neck could only be...my very handsome fiance." Saying the word sent excitement all through her body. She was engaged! To the man she loved no less!
"You guessed right!" Neji spun her around and stole a kiss. "Let's go somewhere." The idea was sprung so quick that Tenten had no time to get her bearing before she was being pulled away to somewhere only Neji knew.
They got into Neji's car and drove off into the sunset. Tenten tried in vain to get him to tell her where he was taking them to. They got to their destination after a long ride and it turned out to be surprise, surprise, the beach.
However, Neji kept leading her further down the shore so she kept following him. The water was a beautiful sight to see at night. The way it reflected the midnight sky and silver moon along with the thousands of stars created a unique painting that only nature could do. It was very aesthetic.
The shore suddenly started getting brighter which drew Tenten's attention from the sea to the land only for her breath to be taken away. She didn't even know that Neji had left her side until then. Seashells marked a path for her, and in them were small fairy lights that lit up the place.
The shells and fairy lights led to a picnic blanket and circled it, highlighting it, and there stood Neji at the front of everything. On one knee and with a ring, a real one this time. Of course he got her a better ring!
"Thank you for being my girlfriend Tenten, and for choosing to stick with me forever." Neji had a solemn smile on his face as he spoke. For moments, Tenten could only stare in surprise and happy tears- really, she had cried when he first popped the quiz now she's crying again?! Geez.
Tenten shook her head, cleared her tears and ran to meet Neji in a hug. "No." She whispered into his chest. "Thank you for being in my life."
They stayed like that until the night (and the dinner, unfortunately) grew cold.
