"Someone wanna tell us why there's a giraffe rug in the middle of the commons," Hanako questions in a tired tone. We just woke up, and she's already done. I can't blame her. Things keep getting weirder and weirder every day.
Ayame jumps over the island, a chocolate-chip granola bar in their left hand, "You like it? I stole it from a garage sale in the suburbs a few hours ago. Apparently, it belonged to a kid that got ran over by a bus," they explain while stuffing their face, little remorse showing.
Hanako's eyebrow twitches, jaw hanging from her skull, "Let me get this straight...you stole...a giraffe rug... What's wrong with you?" she questions.
I shove my hands in the pockets of my hoodie, sighing loudly. I'm not even surprised at this point, "More importantly, why in the hell would you steal from a garage sale of all places?" I inquired, taking a seat at the island.
Hanako sits next to me, "Or why would you ever steal in the first place?" she asks.
Ayame stuffs the rest of the bar in their mouth, "I didn't have any change on me, so I just took it," They state, spitting their food everywhere, "I'll go back later and pay them."
We all know that's not going to happen.
Hanako and I look at each other with knowing expressions; our eyes are lidded and exhausted. Ayame always has a way of doing that to us. Downsides of being the only rational ones in the dorm hall.
Haru and Akira leave the boy's bathroom as Sato leaves his dorm. They meet in the commons at the same time, staring down at the rug with curious expressions.
"What's with the weird rug?" Haru questions, tapping it with his toes like a swimmer testing the water temperature.
As Ayame goes to answer, I interrupt them, "It's not gonna bite you, Haru. And Ayame stole it from a garage sale," I sum up, watching as all of their expressions turn tired.
"Oh... That makes sense," Haru states with a sigh.
Akira kneels down, poking at it with his index finger, "It's utterly disgusting. The design doesn't go with the aesthetic of the room. And it's clear that you didn't wash it before bringing this filth into our living space. How idiotic could you possibly be, Aya?" he asks in a judgmental tone, causing Hanako to snicker and me to sigh as I know exactly where this is going.
Ayame's eyes widen, offended by Akira's words, "How dare you call me an idiot and disrespect my rug, you piece of shit! Don't act like you're so hygienic! Me and you both know it's been 5 days since you took a shower!" they yell, causing Hanako and my eyes to widen, as well as Sato and Haru to step away from him.
Here we go again. It's every day with these two.
Shock overcomes Akira's features, eyes wide, and jaw dropped, "How could you do this to me, Aya!? You promised me! And I trusted you!" he yells with teary eyes.
Ayame snickers to themself, eyes full of amusement, "That's what you get for being mean to the rug," they chuckle with their hand over their mouth.
I look at Akira with disappointed eyes, "What's wrong with you? That disgusting," I state with distaste.
Akira looks at me with a frightened and broken expression, turning his gaze to Ayame with a rough glare, "You broke my trust. I hope you have fun sleeping in your own bed tonight!" he yells, running out the dorm hall.
Haru laughs his ass off, pointing at Akira as he runs out. Hanako wears an amused expression, and Sato looks confused.
"Noooo! Akira, I'm sorry! Come back!" Ayame yells, running after him.
