I can do this. I'm a strongish person... Right?
I take a deep breath, leaving mine and Hanako's shared dorm in my usual hoodie and sweats with my school bag slung over my shoulder. With all of my strength, I walk through the small hallway, entering the commons where my dormmates are all eating breakfast and conversing at the island. The morning sun shines through the large windows, lighting up the room.
Haru looks up from his toasted Pop-Tart, eyeing me as I'm about to make my escape, "Hey, Mi-chan! You should sit with us until you gotta go to practice!" he yells, causing everyone to look over at me.
God damn it, I had one job: get through the commons without being noticed. But no. I just had to be a failure.
"I-," I begin, ready to make up some half-assed excuse to leave, but I freeze once I lock eyes with Sato, memories from last night flashing through my mind. I can still remember the feeling of his breath on my lips.
My cheeks get hot as I turn towards the door. Nope, not doing this. Especially not this early in the morning, I think, speed walking out of the dorms.
Sato's POV:
My eyes meet Mia's beautiful purple ones. Blush covers her cheeks before she rushes out of the dorms.
I look at the closed door with a stunned expression. I might've screwed up last night. This is the last time I'll take Akira's advice when it comes to Mia.
"Huh? What was that all about?" Haru asks, looking at the spot Mia was standing at moments ago.
Ayame cackles to themselves, "Oh, I could take a pretty good guess~," they say, looking at me with a smirk.
My face goes red as everyone eyes me.
"What happened?" Hanako asks Ayame.
Ayame snickers as I try to stop them, but it's no use, "So last night I got up to pee, right. Like I drank way too much juice yesterday. Soma-senpai and Maki-senpai kept giving me more and more. It was never-ending..." Ayame goes off into a weird tangent about orange juice.
"Get to the point already," Hanako sighs, placing her head on her hand.
"Ugh, fine. You're loss then," they huff, sifting in their seat, "Anyway, when I was going to the bathroom, Mi-Mi-chan and Sato were on the couch and they almost kissed," They say as I try to interrupt.
Everyone goes silent, staring at me in astonishment, jaws hanging low. I can't take it anymore. I stand up, attempting to escape, but Haru pulls me back down to my chair. "Haha, man, I guess you do have some balls," he says, draping his arm over my shoulders as I almost die in embarrassment.
Akira laughs hysterically, punching the island table.
"It's not that funny," Hanako says, trying to suppress a laugh.
I let out a breath, looking down at the table. I for sure messed up. I should've been more sensitive when I touched her. The last thing I want is to scare her or make her uncomfortable.
Haru tugs me down, laughing with the others, "Hey, don't worry about it, bro. This is Mi-chan we're talking about. She'll come around eventually. Just let her sort out her feelings first," he says with 100% certainty. Sometimes I feel like Haru sees Mia in a clearer light than I do. Akira too. They're not as close, but they seem to understand the way she thinks. That makes me wonder if I'm even the right person for her.
"Yeah...okay," I say, eyes glued to the table.
Hanako gives Haru a disgusted look, "When'd you become the knowledgeable one," she asks, almost sounding offended like he's trying to take her spot.
