Prologue: Kai has been dead, he is out of hell and realizes that he is not fully alive. he needs y/n's help to bring him fully back.

Kai is walking through the long dark roads of Mystic Falls. It was about 3 in the morning and it was pouring thunderstorm outside. Kai rubbed his hands together to get some warmth. He was on his way to Y/n's house. From being in the hell for so long he still remembered where her house was. Y/n was his best friend. Kai couldn't get the image of her face out of his head. The image of her pain when she saw him die. The whole time he had been in hell he thought about her and how much he missed her. She was the only thing that kept him not letting go. He walked for about half an hour before he finally pulled up to the house. There was a light on where her room was. He went to the off-white door and rang the gold doorbell a couple of times. His foot tapping on the floor worriedly. Y/n opened the door in her blush pink tank top and matching shorts lingerie. Her eyes hadn't fully focused on what was in front of her. 

"K-Kai?" she was frozen she couldn't believe what had stood in front of her. "I would have brought flowers but all the stores lost power and I didn't want to be too extra" Kai smirked and y/n's heart pounded at her chest. She was the only one of her friends who didn't hate Kai. "Oh my god!" she said in relief throwing her arms around him. "How are you here right now?!" she said trying not to cry. "Miracle" Kai smiled and y/n let go of him. "Oh yeah, you can come in," she said with a smile still shocked. Kai had to be invited in since he was a vampire. 

Kai walked into the house closed the door and pulled y/n into a hug. She didn't hesitate to hug back. "I'm still confused, how are you here?" she asked backing up to look at his blue eyes. She missed his blue eyes being able to look into them and just endure them. 

"Well," he started and let go of y/n. "I'm not fully alive, but I'm not a ghost, more of a physical imprint. I'm basically still dead and in hell. I need your help to bring me back y/n. I- I don't want to go back there. They peel off your skin and you're always on fire. And it's even worse when Cade comes to visit you. It's horrible y/n I don't want to go back there" Kai's voice trailing off and y/n nodded. "Well, let's get to work then," she said determinedly and walked into one of the rooms in the far corner of her house. It was her 'spell' room. She picked up her grimoires carrying the heavy books onto the floor and sitting down. She opened the book and immediately started reading them. 

"Y/n, we can do this in the morning, I didn't mean to awaken you," Kai said feeling guilty for awakening her. "Kai, I'm going to bring you back. I need to start now because I don't know how long until you get pulled back into hell. I lost you once and it hurt a lot and I don't want to relive that pain. I'm bringing you back now. I just need to find the spell that my grams told me about." she said flipping pages looking for the spell. Kai felt a weird feeling in his stomach it felt fuzzy and his cheeks felt warm. He looked at one of her mirrors that was on the wall to see his face looking red. He noticed he was blushing from what y/n had said. How could he feel that but not feel anything else? He knelt down to y/n and noticed a tear dripping down her face. He picked up her chin and whipped it off. 

"Why are you crying?" Kai asked his face looking worried. "I'm just really glad your back," she said trying not to ball her eyes out. Kai wanted to tell her about how she made him feel. How she was the only thing that kept him going in hell. How she made him feel warm and cared for. How she was the only thing that he cared about. She looked back at the grimoire and kept reading flipping through the pages. Getting annoyed that she couldn't find the spell. Her flipping got faster. "Ugh! It's not in here! All this time searching for this spell for 2 years! Giving up wasn't an option! and I can't give up because I don't want to give up on you but I have been looking for this spell to bring you back for 2 years and I can't find it. I have tried everything to bring you back and It just wouldn't work. I didn't want to let go of you. Seeing you die in front of me really screwed me up. Screwed mine and Damon's friendship up two and now Damon and I are finally starting to get along again." she was crying more. Kai kissed the top of her head calming her down. She smiled a little "So you were trying to bring me back for the past 2 years?" Kai asked and she nodded. Kai felt the fuzzy feeling return in his stomach. "Every day since you died. I never stopped trying," she said whipping her tears off of her red puffy cheeks.

Y/n's tear hit the paper book and the pages started to turn she looked at it in shock when it opened up to a blank page that had a folded piece of paper in it. She picked up the paper and opened it. "Oh my god... Kai... I-Its the spell" she said looking at the paper then back up at him. "I'm bringing you back" she smiled and so did Kai. Kai turned around and grabbed candles off of her desk and placed them around her. "I'm guessing you will need these?" Kai said and she nodded. "I need something with a lot of energy like the full moon tonight, something from you when you were alive and your ashes," she said and Kai sighed. 

"We don't have those things," Kai said his voice sad and y/n smiled. she took his hand and brought him to her room. She went to her vanity and picked up an urn and turned back to Kai. "Is that what I think it is?" Kai's voice was unsteady fighting back tears. "Y-yeah. Damon was just going to leave you piled with the other Parkers and I couldn't just leave you like that so I was respectful because I care about you. So I burned your body and kept the ashes because I wasn't ready to let you go. I'm never going to be ready to Kai." she told him and then went into her closet reaching for a box and couldn't reach it. Kai stepped next to her and reached it for her. "Thank you," she said and he smiled a little. Y/n opened the box and Kai felt his heart drop. 

"You left these at my house before I meant to give them back but you were gone," she said and Kai examined the box. His rings, hoodie, his hat, and his bracelet, and a note in it. "What's the note?" he asked and she picked up the note and opened it and hesitantly was about to read it. "No don't read it yet, read it when you bring me back," Kai said and she nodded. She took a ring out of the box and put it in the palm of her hand. They walked back downstairs with the urn and ring. She put the ashes in a circle with Kai in the middle. 

"Phesmatos Incendia" the candles lit around her. She looked at the grimoire and held the ring tight in her hand. She started to chant the spell. The candle's flame grew and she kept chanting. Kai dropped to the ground in pain. Her chanting got louder trying to drown out the sound of Kai's screams. The candles went out and Kai stumbled out of the circle. It worked, Y/n felt weak and stumbled a little. He caught her and pulled her into a hug, she hugged him back. Kai felt a weird hunger and pulled back. Veins appearing under his eyes, his eyes black. She didn't seem affected by it. she reached up and traced around the veins under his eyes then looked into his eye and leaned in to kiss him. The veins disappeared and he kissed back. She pulled away and he smiled. "What did that note say?" he asked and her smile disappeared. 

"Well-um- it- um... it said" her voice was shaking and Kai laughed a little. "It said I love you," she said and Kai stopped laughing and raised his eyebrows. "You what?" Kai said and brought his eyebrows back down. "I love you," she said and Kai hesitantly smiled and smashed his lips into hers. "I love you too," Kai said and began to realize that he always has and that's why he couldn't stop thinking about her in hell. "So I don't really have a place to stay so," Kai said wrapping his arms around my waist. "Can I stay here with you for a little?" Kai said rubbing his nose into hers and she smiled. "for as long as you need." she said and planted a small gentle kiss on his lips. Kai smiled and picked her up to carry her up the stairs. He placed her on her bed and started setting up a place for him to sleep on the ground. "Kai you don't have to sleep down there, we have slept together before," y/n said with a laugh and Kai got onto her bed and slid under the covers. "you need clothes? I have some over there that you left here before" Kai said and used her magic to bring sweatpants and a hoodie to Kai. He put them on then cuddled up to her snuggling up to her. She smiled and hugged her arms around him. She pushed herself right next to him and laid her head on his shoulder as he pulled her to him. One of her legs draped over his waist. He kissed the top of her head and she smiled. 

"You know. In hell, you were the only thing I thought about. the only thing that kept me holding on. you had hope that I would be back and here I am here with you. and I'm happy." Kai said and butterflies flooded her stomach. Kai could hear her heart race and he chuckled a little. "what's so funny?" she asked and he smiled. "you, I can hear your heart racing" he said and laughed she snuggled up to him more. "Goodnight, now that it's 5 am but hey it was worth it," Kai said and y/n hummed. "Good night Kai. I love you" she said her voice trailing off as she fell asleep. Kai smiled and kissed her forehead then fell off into a peaceful sleep as the thunder storm continued.
