Bondita entered the study, nerves wreaking havoc inside her body. Her stomach was filled with butterflies, goosebumps all over her arms. Taking photos was not popular in the 1920s, so she only had a photo from her graduation, which she had packed inside her suitcase. She never sent a photo to Anirudh, and he never sent her a photo of himself.
She had gotten her face sketched once, and she had sent that in an envelope, but that was when she was sixteen. Four years had passed since then.
Bondita would often wonder how her Pati babu looked. Did he grow very much older? Would he look the same? She would fantasize about whether his nose got longer, or his hair grew to his ears. Did he grow a beard? He would look funny in a beard. She would often think about it and laugh. She used to wonder if he was also imagining funny looks on her as well, here in India.
The twenty year old Barrister looked around the study, until she saw a figure fast asleep on a sofa, a blanket covering his sleeping figure.
Her hands nervously clasped together, she walked slowly towards a sleeping Anirudh. The blanket was covering half of his face, but Bondita couldn't wait any longer. She had to see him. She had to see her everything Babu.
Tears in her eyes, she gently pulled the blanket down to his chest, and gazed at his face for the first time in seven years.
He was adorning a heavy stubble look, he had grown a little older, had some fine lines on his forehead, but as a man of only thirty, he looked quite young and dashing, if she had to say.
And sleeping like this, he looked like an angel. Bondita could stare at him like this forever.
A smile on her lips, tears falling down her cheeks, she whispered, "P - Pati Babu."
She didn't want to disturb his sleep, she really didn't. However, she couldn't help it. She needed to touch him, to hug him. To have him in her arms after seven long years. She needed to hear his voice. She needed all of him, and Bondita couldn't wait. She couldn't wait another second.
He opened his eyes and for the first time in seven years, Anirudh Roy Choudhary's soft gaze fell on Bondita.
His Bondita.
