"Pati Babu," a six months pregnant Bondita whispered in the middle of the night, shaking Anirudh awake.
He woke up with a start and sat up, taking her hands.
"Bondita what happened? Are you okay?" he asked, concerned.
"I'm fine," she said breathlessly and wrapped her arms around him. "I just wanted to hug you."
He breathed a sigh of relief.
There was a baby bump between them now, so she wasn't able to hold him as close to her as before.
Anirudh hugged her lovingly. Sometimes, his wife would wake him up for cravings -- whether it was cravings for certain foods, or for him. He had gotten very used to her craving for his touch late at night.
Bondita broke the hug and caressed his face with her fingers.
Anirudh leaned towards her slowly and pressed a kiss on the tip of her nose, making her smile.
"Does your back hurt?" he asked softly, running his hands down from her shoulders towards her lower back.
"A little bit," she admitted, while he massaged her back.
"Bondita, you are waking up so much in the middle of the night these days," Anirudh told her, concerned. "Are you sure you are okay?"
"It's just getting uncomfortable to sleep," she answered, "But I'm fine Pati Babu."
She rested her head on his shoulder as he massaged her back.
He had told her that whenever she woke up, she had to wake him up too. Even if she didn't want to sleep for any reason, he had told her he would stay awake with her. His priority was Bondita. His sleep didn't matter to him. Nothing mattered when it came to her, and nothing ever could, so what was a small thing like sleep?
"Why don't you lie down? I'll give you a massage," he said, hoping that his hand work could put her to sleep.
She glanced up at him from his shoulder and he smiled at her. She smiled back at him. Even after all these months of their marriage, and all these years of their togetherness, the way Anirudh smiled at her made her heart flutter.
Bondita reached to the nape of his neck, and begged him with her eyes. A playful smirk on his lips, he pressed his lips against her soft ones momentarily.
When he broke the kiss and glanced into her eyes, Bondita had lifted her head from his shoulder and leaned close to him again, to kiss him more.
After they kissed this time around, she whispered, a twinkle in her eyes, "It still leaves me in awe that you're mine."
Anirudh smiled at her, cupping her face lovingly.
"Bondita, I don't think I can ever not be blown away by the miracle of having you with me," he whispered back. "You're so precious to me."
She knew how much her Pati Babu loved and worshipped her, and she also loved and worshipped him so much.
They had their struggles and their journey, but the best part was that the journey and the destination had always been about each other.
As they were gazing into each others eyes with playful smiles, Bondita gasped.
"W - what happened Bondita?" Anirudh asked nervously, holding her shoulders.
"Pati Babu," she gasped, and took his hand, placing it on her belly. "I think the baby kicked me!"
"What?" Anirudh asked, his eyes wide.
