it went even better than I expected.

we had snuck off to my car with no issues.

he bullied me the whole way about my "mom car"

"dude it's not a mom car!"

"it totally is! with the air freshener and everything!"

we had laughed the whole way there.

we parked behind the coffee shop. we decided we could walk to the library.

we had grabbed our warm drinks, the lady once again offering it for free.

"it'll be about a ten minute walk.. is that okay?"

he nodded and we were off.

the walk was simple but sweet.

George was pointing at everyday things he's never seen.

"what's a corn dog-?"

obviously we had to stop and get one.

"so.. it's just a hot dog with corn bread on it-?"

I already tore mine apart.

"well I mean, yeah! thoughts?"

"its alright,"

we continued our peaceful walk.

we were just a few steps away.

"okay cover your eyes!"

"what? why-"

"just trust me!"

he gave me a glare but complied.

"Clay if I fall it's all your fault!"

I intertwined my arm with his a guided him the rest of the way.

the cold wind pushed my hair back as we entered.

"can I open my eyes yet?"

I stood slightly behind him with my hands on his shoulders.

"3.."

this was such a good idea.

"2.."

I hope he likes it.

"1.."

what if he doesn't?

"open!"

oh god.

the boy pulled his hand away from his red face.

his eyes immediately filled with child like wonder.

"Clay look at all these cats! is this a cat library?! I had no idea these were a thing!"

and he was gone.

I struggled to keep up and almost lost him in the hundreds of isles.

his fingers slowly ran across the spine of each book.

we had found a quiet corner near the back to read for a bit.

George already had 5 cats surrounding him.

I had looked up to examine the place and read a small sign.

"cats for adoption! please take a pamphlet"

I got up to grab one.

"hey look! this thing has all the names and pictures in it.. that one on your lap is Bell and to your left is Soxs."

he started talking to the cats as I continued flipping the pages.

they were all normal cats.

black, grey, white, etc.

but one caught my eye.

Patches.

a brown cat with little white paws and green eyes. she isn't know as the kindest or loving cat. very few people have found her good side.

I will find that cat.
