AGAIN AND AGAIN // marcus abbott

chapter 2: what was that?

          it's the fifth inning and it's almost time for marcus to step up to bat again. lee comes back and sits next to regan and i on the bleachers. he came back with some fruit, water, and dirty hands. he cuts open his orange with his dirty hands and regan offers to cut it for him. evelyn is over at the playground playing with beau on the swings. i look up from regan's hands and see that it's marcus's turn to go up to bat.

          lee and i holler and cheer for marcus as he walks up to the base. the pitcher pitches the first ball and marcus doesn't swing for it. marcus does the same thing for the second pitch. i focus on marcus and hope he does well. right before the third pitch i see marcus drop his bat and look up to the sky. i look to where marcus was looking and i see some sort of meteor. people around me are also looking at this weird meteor. lee grabs me and regan and shuffles us to evelyn's car where beau, marcus, and evelyn were. "my truck is parked on main street. i'm going to go and get it," lee signed and said. "i'll go with you," regan signed. evelyn said "okay marcus, y/n, and beau will go with me."

          we hop into the car, but this time marcus is in the passenger seat and me and beau are in the back. we pull out of the parking lot worried and confused. what was that meteor? hopefully it won't affect us. "we will drop y/n off at her house on the way back home," evelyn said. we agreed and started down main street. everyone seems to be in a panic and we get confused as to why. we then see this weird alien-like, four-legged creature running across the street killing people. i start to panic, and evelyn says, "we are fine guys," repeatedly. evelyn steps on the gas to get away from the madness.

          people are running around trying to escape this creature. out of nowhere, a damaged bus turns around the corner heading straight towards us. evelyn reverses the car trying to get away from the bus. we then pass regan and lee getting into the truck as we go back down main street. we see one of those creatures come through the front of our bus and crash our windshield. we all scream as the car spins out of control. we crash into something and evelyn tells us to unbuckle. i see marcus with blood coming out of his forehead, which i can assume he hit his head after we crashed. we run out of the car and hide behind the flipped police car. evelyn is comforting beau as me and marcus hold eachother in a tight embrace. we hear crashing and weird sounds coming from the creatures, so i cover my ears. marcus soon does the same.

          a minute later i peek my head over the police car to see regan and lee running towards us being chased by one of those creatures. i tap marcus on the shoulder and point towards them to tell him that they are coming. the policeman gets out his gun and tries to shoot the creature. he failed and ended up being killed by the creature. regan and lee tell us to follow them and so we did. marcus and i follow the rest of the family hand in hand to the abbott farm.

hopefully this chapter is a little longer and more exciting. this is the start of the whole debacle and we will skip forward to the beginning of a quiet place 1.
