Y/n's pov

"Father, we're running low on chickens", I said while-lacing the bucket on the table. It was only filled with two chickens. "No need to worry, we'll raise more", he replied while washing the somewhat broken plate. "We lost the chicks", I stated causing him to stop washing.

"You said yesterday they were fine", he said. "I said that two days ago, yesterday some creature came and killed them", I explained. "Then set a trap up", he fussed. "You don't understands it killed all of them, but tool only half of them what kind of animal does that", I replied. He just turned towards me and lowered his head.

"Then we should pray to Mother Miranda", he said. "What does p-", I went to say, but stopped when I felt someone out a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see it was my mother.

"John, you can pray later, please go ask around to see if anyone can spare any chicks", she suggested. "We will pray at dinner then", he replied then headed for the door and left. I looked to make sure he really left then I gave my mom an annoyed look.

"You know he's one of her devoted followers", she stated. "I know, but he can't pray every time something happens, he should only pray for guidance", I said. "Are you questioning Mother Miranda", she asked causing me to shake my hands and shake my head rapidly.

"No no no never, it's just lately it feels like asking her for help won't do anything", I explained. "It feels like, she's going to abandon us at some point", I sighed. "And you assume she will based on what evidence", she asked. "Just a gut feeling", I replied as we started to head outside. A group of kids ran past us as they chased one another.

"Your gut feeling never been wrong yet, perhaps this time", she laughed. Suddenly we heard the sound of someone screaming causing us to turn around. A man was biting into a woman's neck. He took a huge chunk out of her skin and let out a monstrous roar. More people that looked like him, like monsters began attacking people nearby. My mother grabbed my hand as we ran the opposite direction. As we ran we ran into my dad who was also running.

"We need to pray, for protection", he gasped as he held his shoulder, it was drenched in blood. "Dad! We must go", I shouted. He had the eyes of a delusional man. He grabbed my hand and dropped to his knees.

"Great ones hear our voice, together as one in reverence", he chanted. "We call on thee within the endless dark to deliver us into fate's hands", he chanted, I tried to pull my hand out his grip, but for some reason it was unusually strong. His hand became a grayish and blackish color and slowly became distorted.

"As the midnight moon rises on b-black wings, so we make our sacrifice and await the light at the end", he chanted, his face started to change as well into a monster. "Y/N! LET'S GO", my mother shouted. I finally broke free from his grip and rushed to my mother's side. Behind us more of those monsters showed up.

"FATHER LET'S GO", I cried pulling on his shirt, but he refused to move. "We must leave him, now", my mother fussed. I closed my eyes to stop the tears from developing in them. My mother ran away from him towards the cliffs in hopes for an exit or someplace to hide.

"In life and in death, we give glory, MOTHER MIRANDA", he cried out before the monsters began devouring him. After a while of running we ran into a dead end.

"Come mother, we must go", I panted and try to run the other way, but my mother pulled me back. "No this way", she said before dropping to her knees. She dusted away a free branches and leaves revealing a huge wooden plank. She lifted the plank revealing a huge hole, enough for a human to crawl through.
