Author's pov"Hey Jade!" Lisa's cheerful voice beamed through the classroom. "Coming to my party tonight?"
Jade hesitated. She became smaller and smaller as everyone's eyes turned in her direction.
Jade Park was no ordinary eighteen year old girl. While her classmates went out almost every night, having fun, partying, creating memories and tightening friendships, she was stuck in her father's home office, befriending her anatomy book. And other books, of course.
To say she was a book worm, would be quite an understatement. Besides her parents being very old fashioned and strict people, they were also top surgeons at the best hospital in Seoul. It's needless to say that their expectations for their only daughter were nothing short from academic perfection.
Her grades usually didn't disappoint, until one day, when she came home with C in English class.
"I can't, sorry." She predictably answered and everyone turned away, whispering about.
"I told you she wouldn't come." She heard someone say.
"Why did you even bother asking her?" The girl next to Lisa laughed. "I know you don't even like her." She continued with a lowered voice and Lisa simply smirked.
"I bet she's never been to a party before." Another voice muttered behind her.
It was true. She's always wondered what was happening at these parties, but she didn't once dare to go. Her parents wouldn't approve anyway, so she tried to keep her thoughts occupied with something else.
Her closest thing to fun was her beloved hobby: photography. Her father condoned it, as long as it didn't interfere with her studies.
It took a while, but she got used to all the gossiping floating around her. She gradually became numb to her classmates' badmouthing and instead of fighting or talking back, she got even more immersed in her studies.
And anyway, today was Friday, and nothing could bring her down because today she gets to see him, Namjoon.
Namjoon, her gateway to happiness. Her English tutor. Her crush. The only boy who treated her nicely.
But then again, Kim Namjoon wasn't a boy.
He was a man.Jade's mother was friends with Mrs. Kim, and when she complained about her receiving a C in English class, she immediately recommended her son, Namjoon, as a tutor. He was an English literature major in college and was looking to make some extra pocket money which was the perfect arrangement.
Jade was against the idea of having a tutor in the beginning but her mother convinced her to give it a go, and boy was she glad she listened.
She was a lost cause the minute she laid eyes on him. The minute he smiled at her, showcasing his deep dimples and his pearly teeth she was absolutely hooked.
She considered him to be a very attractive young man, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. She soon discovered that the real drug was actually his intimidating thick voice, which made her insides tremble like a loud bass booming into a speaker. If he would've talked for three days straight she would've happily listened.
And just when she thought she had him all figured out, he started teaching her. Not only was he smart and incredibly good at explaining verb tenses and word pronunciation but he was also kind and beyond patient, which made him irresistible.
Jade didn't know for sure when she fell for him. Maybe when he clumsily broke a mechanical pencil with his bare hands or maybe when he praised her for doing a good job with her first assignment. It didn't matter anyway, because every time she saw him, she would fall even deeper.
