Taehyung's heart felt like it would jump out of his chest any minute now. He was catching his breath in front of Jade's house, contemplating if knocking on the front door would be a better idea than making his way up the window like last time.

Seeing it was dinner time, he expected to see some commotion through the kitchen window, but to his surprise, the lights were completely off throughout the house.

At second glance, he noticed her parents' cars weren't in the driveway, which meant they were still out. Probably at work. Probably doing another night shift.

Jade was experiencing her first heartbreak ever, and yet she didn't even have a shoulder to cry on or a familiar face to rant to.
This was the second time today he felt bad for her today and it broke his heart just as much as the first time.

She didn't deserve this. He thought.

He imagined the way she must've felt when she saw Namjoon drooling all over Nari on their potential date.

Shit! she thought it was a date. He remembered their conversation from the other day and facepalms instantly.

"Where are you, Einstein?" He mumbled to himself while looking around aimlessly.

Darn it! He should've texted her first, he thinks while nervously tapping his foot on the concrete, but he was convinced she wouldn't have bothered to reply.

She must hate him a great deal by now.

He was the one who encouraged pursuing her love dream and making Namjoon notice her, then bailed when she needed him most and worst of all, he totally forgot to mention Namjoon's college crush, Nari.

He drew closer, hopping he had missed the flickering lights of her laptop in her room, but even after double checking, there was still no sign of her presence anywhere.

The thought of Jade crying in some corner somewhere, with nobody to console her was driving him close to insanity.

"She's fine." He repeated to himself, like a chant. "She'll be fine. She's a big girl." But his eyes kept roaming.

The sun had completely set now and Taehyung was about to head back, thinking he'll definitely see her the following day at school (Jade never missed school), but as he was walking backwards, he spotted a very dim, red light, at the back of their garden.

It was coming from a sort of tool house, with small, narrow windows, smothered in bushes and hidden from outsiders, but apparently not well enough, seeing that it took Taehyung a total of thirty seconds to jump over the white picket fence and make his way towards it.

As he stood in front of the gloomy shed, he was preparing his heart for the feeling of pity that was about to invade it. He knew he'll definitely feel bad for her and maybe even a little sad, considering how close they've gotten in the last few weeks.

Taehyung might be a careless teen most of the time but he was still human. Of course he started to care about Jade. How could he not? She did his homework, took time to explain multivariable calculus, listened to all his nonsense stories and annoying comments and she even stood up for him in a room full of older college guys.

Jade was so unlike the other girls who usually roamed around him. She cared more about scientific discoveries than social media. Her idea of fun was trivia night with her dad in the living room and her go-to makeup was a cheap lip tint and her mum's BB cream. She played better poker than half of the boys in his class but probably never properly danced with anyone in her seventeen years of life.
