Author's pov

They agreed to meet outside the museum. Taehyung didn't want to. Insisted he picked her up at her front door, but she wouldn't budge. Something about already being around town and not being able to go on his motorcycle today, things he dismissed as "girl stuff".

The fact that he was almost 30 minutes early to this non, fake date had nothing to do with his eagerness to see Jade. Not at all. He just wanted to check the museum shop for a magazine about contemporary artists. Yes, that was it. Definitely. He didn't miss Jade.

How could he? They just saw each other last night. Last night, when he dropped her off in the sunset light, her freckles covered by tiny splashes of neon spray paint. She had looked... ethereal. Like an angel, or a star, something celestial for sure. But, no, he didn't miss her.

After the fifth time checking his watch, he noticed Jade was late. Which was a rarity. Being on time was her thing.

He walked around aimlessly, pacing next to the outdoor art displays, pretending to look at them for a second and then looking around again, trying to find her.

"Where are you, Einstein?" He repeated as he checked his watch once more.

How often does he look for her in a crowd these days? He asked himself and then also answered: always. She was on his mind constantly.

Was she okay? Did she have second thoughts about this? Was it because of Namjoon or himself? Was asking her to pretend like this a bad idea?

Fifteen minutes late was so unlike her; he started to get worried so he pulled out his phone, mumbling to himself: "should have picked her up"

Tae: Whhere are u

He quickly texted, not even realizing his error.

Jade is typing...

He let out a breath of relief. She's fine.

Jade: right here, silly

He turned around and people were coming and going except for a young girl, leaning on the wall next to the entrance. He looked away for a second, but then, the girl started walking towards him, and he had to look again.

Surely enough, it was Jade. His Jade. And this was the first time Taehyung actually hated his brother. For the simple reason that he was at the receiving end of this girl's affection. His girl.

Was his expression surprised? Sure. Excited? Yes. But most of all: hungry. His eyes didn't shy away of checking every little detail on Jade as she approached.

"Hi." She said as she finally reached him. Like she hasn't become every man's wet dream.

Tae thought Jade was beautiful in any outfit but the thin top straps showed her collarbone in a way he's never seen before.
Her skin looked like expensive Italian marble and for some reason Taehyung just wanted to lick it. It looked so ... inviting.
The skirt? With the boots? Made her look so so cool, like she truly was. Confident, too. He would have let her walk all over him with those boots, and then ask for more.
And then, her hair? Down? Just... down, carelessly caressing her shoulders, made him want to wrap it around his knuckles and pull on it, hard.

That thought crossed a line, so he stopped looking. Averted his eyes.

"Tae? I know it's a bit different...," she motioned to all of herself, hesitating, " but, do I look okay?"

She needs her best friend right now, not some horny teenager, the boy thought.
damn it, Taehyung, pull yourself together! He scolded himself as he tried to do just that and raised his gaze once more.

But then... he met her eyes.

The glasses were gone and starring back at him were two bright emerald stones that simply left him speechless.

He wanted to respond. He really did. To praise her and compliment her. To say how lovely she looked but he just froze.

"Tae?" his gaze fell to her cherry red lips.

Nope. Still frozen. And now he was drooling.

"Is it the skirt? The girl from the shop said it looked nice and I..." Jade felt a need to explain. To fill up the awkward silence.

"No!" Tae managed to get out. Rather loudly. " I-... you... don't worry, it's fine."

fine? Is that really what he went with? Instant regret filled his soul, the moment those words left his mouth.

"You're acting weird, Tae. Are you feeling alright?" She reached out for him, but he stepped back. Why did he do that?

"Yeah, no, I'm fine." Was that the only word he knew?  "Shall we? Namjoon is in there probably."

Jade visibly tensed at the name. But the fact she was with Taehyung this time helped calming her nerves.

This is closure, she thought. It shouldn't hurt.

"Yeah, let's go." She shook her head a bit, almost like trying to get rid of all her other thoughts and just focus on one. Making Namjoon see her, for the first and last time.

"Jade, I'm sorry." Her best friend gripped her elbow, getting her attention. "We're friends and I ...well, I lied. I lied to you, Jade."

"Tae... what do you mean? When did you lie?"

"Just now, when I said you looked fine. You don't."

Her heart sank. The outfit was too much. The contacts. The hair. It was ridiculous. All of it.

"You look so..." childish, pathetic, unattractive, she expected, "freaking hot!"

Thhose words drowned the crowd around them, and for a second, her heart stood still.

"What?" She heard him well, but she wasn't sure if it was a cruel joke he was playing.

"Hot! Scorching. Like the sun." Taehyung confirmed.

"You.. really think I'm... hot?"

"Yes! Absolutely!" The answer was immediate.

She started to blush.

"Like the sun?" She tried to tease him.

"Look, I might be your friend, but I'm still a guy."

She blushed harder but there was no denying that Tae's words filled her with more confidence that she's ever had in her lifetime.

"Thanks, I guess?" Jade tried to play it cool, not wanting to lose her composure.

Taehyung only nodded and offered her his arm.
His smile was wide when she took it.

"Let's give him hell!" He had to lean down a little bit and whisper in her ear. She smiled, nodded excitedly as they went for the entrance.

"And for the record," she said calmly, her eyes straight in front of them. "You are also scorching hot." A subtle giggle followed.

That was it. The sound that will hunt Taehyung's dreams forever.

As they enter the museum and Namjoon comes into view, looking sharp, like he always did, Tae could only wonder: what if Namjoon really sees her? What if he actually falls in love with her? Forgets Nari and realizes how much better Jade is?

Would he just stand by and watch it happen?
