Kayla
After spending my night locked up in my room, my daddy called me and my brother on the intercom to come downstairs. I had been crying my eyes out for hours and I didn't feel like being bothered. No matter how upset I am, that's still my father and I chose to be obedient.
"You twisted ya' hair up last night? I like it." My daddy hugged me.
"Thanks." I spoke low.
"Your brother just decided not to listen? He just been showing his ass too much lately." Mama took off her house shoe.
"Don't trip. I'll go get him." Daddy told her.
"Ma, what do you expect when he's hurting? Our uncle is gone and we have to deal with bringing more strangers into our family. Cousins, siblings, whatever, it's awkward and painful to pretend to be happy about this. I mean, I'm excited to show them love, but it's sad that this is something we have to go through again." I explained.
"How do you think I feel? I want to be upset too, but we gotta let the past be the past. Your daddy lost one of the closest people to him. And then to find out he missed seventeen years of they lives. Everything can't be about y'all and y'all gotta learn not to be selfish." She whispered.
"That's not selfish, we are expressing our pain the best way we can. I don't blame Baby Keem. It's hard to be supportive in situations like this." I tried to get my words out before my daddy came back into the kitchen.
"He said he wanted to sleep in. Kay, you wanna take the ride with me? Brooklyn meeting us there."
"Sure. You coming too, ma?" I put my head down.
"Of course I'm coming."
"You want something to eat before we dip?" My daddy took a deep breath.
"I'm not really hungry." I responded.
Daddy nodded and we prepared to leave. Security was outside with a tented truck for us. My daddy opened the door for me and mama and then he got in. The ride was quiet—I kept my head down most of the time and my daddy kept rubbing his face in distress. Mama stayed on her phone most of the time.
When we got there, the twins and their mother were already waiting. I know my daddies type and I could see him and uncle Shad doing what they did with her. A big booty is dangerous for them two niggas. Anyway...Kash's sister introduced herself to me as Khadijah. I gave her a hug to be nice. My daddy awkwardly hugged her too. Kash stood buku far away—ignorant ass.
"Hi Kash!" I yelled and waved.
"Why you so loud?" He mugged me.
Daddy sighed and then got them signed in for the appointment. The twins mama started crying and shit, apologizing to mama. Girl, uncle Shad and my daddy already got two baby mamas, one more ain't nothing special to them. I was just looking at her, her own damn kids was ignoring her.
"Sorry I'm late! Let's get this over with." Brooklyn came in smelling like weed.
"Do I gotta spit? I got cotton mouth like a bi-otch." She licked her lips.
"They drawing blood for faster results." Daddy told her.
The twins got called back, then my daddy, and then Brooklyn. Mama, the twins mother and I stayed in the waiting area until they all came back one by one. We waited quietly on the results and the silence was killing me. I caught Khadijah staring at me from the other side of the room; which made me feel awkward as fuck because she didn't stop once we locked eyes. She looked like she wanted to cry so I stood out my seat and walked towards the vending area. Daddy got up and followed me.
