Kyojuro, half-asleep, had his arms wrapped securely around your waist. As you turned to meet his gaze, he looked at peace. As much as you wanted to savor the peaceful moment, you remembered you forgot to set your alarm last night. That realization had you jumping up from the bed in seconds.

Kyojuro's muscles were no match for a woman who needed to get her ass to work.

He woke abruptly the moment he realized your torso was no longer within his grasp, "Hey, what's going on?"

You exclaimed, "We're going to be late, Kyojuro!"

"Oh shit, what time is it?" Kyojuro chuckled, his face sinking back into the pillows.

Glancing at your phone, you noted that you weren't late yet. But if you didn't hop in the shower soon you would be.

"It's still early, but I should be showering right now." You replied as you set your phone back down on the nightstand."

He propped himself up on the bed, his hands holding his head, "You wanna shower together?"

You grinned at him, while that offer sounded nice—you knew getting to work with no distractions was the better option.

You sat on the bed next to him, "While that offer sounds really nice right now, I don't know what'll happen."

He smiled, "All right, then. Meet you downstairs later?"

You nodded, "You know it."

As you hopped into the passenger seat—it was Kyojuro's turn to drive, a bit of awkwardness lingered from the events of last night. When Kyojuro entered, your heart started racing intensely, like a sprinter preparing for a race.

"I feel like we should talk about what happened." You said, fidgeting nervously with your hands.

Kyojuro gave you a glance before replying, "I don't expect anything from you, and I don't mean this in a mean way. I know you just got out of a relationship—your first one at that."

You felt a wave of relief knowing that Kyojuro was understanding, "Thank you. I am not sure what I want right now, but what happened last night—it made me feel different."

"Yeah, because you're with someone else." He said coldly, "All that I ask is, please don't make me a rebound."

You felt a shift in the air, "I am not. I just need time to figure things out, you know? Discover myself without someone alongside me."

He nodded, bringing an end to the awkward conversation.

Walking in together now felt distinctly different from before. The tension was finally broken, but at what cost?

This was about to be the most awkward elevator ride.

Just as the doors were about to close, a boy wearing a checkered sweater dashed in.

He greeted both of you between gasps, clearly winded from his rush, "Hello Mr. Rengoku! And hello ma'am, I don't think we've met each other yet. I'm Tanjiro Kamado! I work on floor three, just as an intern though."

His vibrant energy instantly killed any lingering awkwardness.

"I'm Y/n L/n! I work on the floor above you. It's nice to meet you too, Tanjiro." You smiled at him.

Kyojuro patted Tanjiro's head, "I haven't seen you in a bit, we need to go eat one of these days!"

"Of course! We all miss you teaching us, Mr. Obanai is very harsh." He said, with a nervous chuckle, as he remembered the daunting day he had ahead of him.

As the elevator door opened on his floor, he walked out and waved goodbye. His presence had left you feeling better; there was a positive aura about him that was infectious.

"He's a nice boy." You commented, glancing at Kyojuro.

Kyojuro smiled, "Ah yes! Tanjiro is one of the most promising interns we have—no offense. He definitely has a talent for this type of art."

The door opened, and the conversation continued.

"I'd love to see some of the work Iguro has him doing." You laughed, "His face changed colors when he remembered Iguro's his instructor."

"He has them working pretty hard, which is definitely something they'll need to build their professional portfolios." Kyojuro reasoned.

As you both settled in, you caught Shinobu approaching you from the corner of your eye.

She waved at you, "Hey, can we talk in private?" Shinobu glanced at Kyojuro, silently indicating to him that he should leave.

Kyojuro wasn't petty; perhaps he felt a bit of jealousy, but he allowed you two to speak in private. With that understanding, he walked off to get a cup of tea.

Throughout their intense interaction, you were left dumbfounded.

Shinobu chuckled nervously, trying to lighten the awkward atmosphere, "Listen, I wanted to apologize for making you uncomfortable yesterday."

You raised your hands in a gesture of denial, "Oh no! Not at all. The question caught me off guard but hey you were just looking out for your friend." Of course, you knew this "friend" of hers didn't exist, but there was no need to make the situation even more awkward.

"No please, just listen." She took Kyojuro's seat and gently took hold of your hands, "I know you know that I have some feelings for you. And I want to make that known so you don't have to feel confused about what I've been saying and doing."

You nodded along as you listened to her carry on.

"I wanted to invite you to my home for dinner!" She exclaimed, "As a friendly gesture, of course, I live with my sisters."

You were unsure whether to accept her invitation. Despite her explanation, the awkward tension between you both persisted.

"Uh well." You muttered, god you're terrible at saying no.

"Sure, why not? Just to mend things." You smiled as convincingly as possible, though deep down, you were still unsure if you wanted to go.

Shinobu wasn't dumb; she knew you were still unsure. However, she chose to overlook it, hoping that tonight could help mend things between you.

"Well then, see you tonight!" She smiled, got up, and walked away.

By the time she had walked away, Kyojuro was returning with two cups of tea in hand.

He placed your cup on your desk, "Hey I got you green tea, I'm not sure about how big you are on sweets so I only added a bit of honey."

"You're so sweet Kyojuro, I'm like in between on sweets." You took a sip of your tea, "I think you added the perfect amount of honey."

He was trying to hide his smile, "Well, maybe I know you better than you think I do."

You chuckled, "You're a flirt. Come closer, I need to tell you something."

Kyojuro was sat in seconds. His ear was as close to your mouth as possible.

"Shinobu invited me to eat at her place tonight." You widened your eyes to emphasize your statement dramatically.

"Did you accept her invitation?" He whispered into your ear.

You nodded, "Yes I did, but only to mend things between us."

"Well good luck, if it gets awkward just call me and I'll make up a random emergency." He chuckled.

You joined his laughter, "Will do."
