different

they look at us, seeing
something different than them.
they don't know anything
about us gleaming gems.

so naturally, they fear
what they cannot understand.
they blanch at the sight,
of you holding my hand.

they have been taught
that our existence
is a sin, so they just
stare from a distance.

but the way you love me,
is beautiful, my dear.
i don't know what i'd do,
without you to wipe my tears.

so someday, i pray,
the world will come around.
of the way that every child is,
their parents would be proud.
