The Sorting

Teddy sat in awe of everything around him. He was in the great hall, watching the sorting hat sing, some kids would be put in Slytherin, some Hufflepuff, some Ravenclaw and some Gryffindor. Teddy wanted to be in Gryffindor with Ron and Harry. The three of them became fast friends.

Teddy turned back to the sorting hat's song,

"Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your black,
Your sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"

There was an array of laughter from the crowd at the hat's song.

Teddy certainly hoped he was brave enough for Gryffindor. Teddy ignored most of the kids' sorting's but paid attention when they called Hermione Granger, the girl who had made fun of Ron's attempt of magic.

The hat sat on her head for almost one whole minute until it shouted "GRYFFINDOR!"

The Gryffindor table applauded as Hermione walked over.

A few more went by, then "Longbottum, Neville!"

Neville tripped on his way to the stool, the Slytherins laughed. Neville sat on the stool and the hat was placed on his head. "GRYFFINDOR!" the hat announced.

Neville made his way over to the table.

"Lupin, Teddy!" Teddy could see some of the teachers look at him strangely, and one will long black hair, a big nose, and black robes even glared. I wonder what that's about? he thought.

He sat on the stool and McGonagall placed the hat on his head.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat shouted the instant it touched Teddy's head. Teddy smiled a big happy smile as he went over to sit next to Ron.

A few more people went and the it was time for Harry.

"Potter, Harry!" McGonagall called. A hush fell over the crowd. Everybody watched as Harry approached the hat.

On the train ride Ron had told Teddy all about the famous Harry Potter while Harry sat and blushed as Ron gushed about how baby Harry had defeated You-Know-Who.

Teddy thought it was a bit strange. That people would be so grateful to a kid who hadn't done anything to defeat You-Know-Who. He was just a baby. What can a baby do? Teddy felt like there was pieces missing to the story.

Anyway, Harry seemed grateful that Teddy didn't treat him like a superstar.

The hat sat on Harry's head for quite a while before bellowing "GRYFFINDOR!" And the Gryffindor table burst into applauds.

After a meal of the best food and dessert Teddy had ever had in his life, they went up to the common rooms. They said the password and were shown their rooms.

Teddy was in a room with Neville, Harry, Ron and a boy called Dean Thomas. Their trunks were already at their beds and a note said that their owls were at the owlrey.

Teddy fell asleep that night happy and content in his new home.

If only he knew what was to come...
