Teddy POV
The first day fo classes dragged on for Teddy, especially because he started his day with double Potions. And Snape made sure that very class Teddy had with him was absolute torture.
But time seemed to slowly inch along and then it was time for his first class with the mysterious new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Professor Lupin.
Teddy rushed to class, eager to make a good impression, ignoring the whisperings from other students about Lupins strange scars, tattered clothes, and apparently unorthodox methods of teaching.
Reaching class Teddy slid into a seat in between Harry and Ron, who were having a hushed conversation about what Lupin would teach them about.
"I heard he took the fourth years into the woods to talk with the Centars!" Ron gushed in a quiet whisper.
"Really?!" Harry whispered back, shocked.
Teddy smiled. He liked Professor Lupin. He had fended off the dementors from the train and given them chocolate. If anything else, the chocolate was a welcome sign for Teddy. Plus, he couldn't put his finger on why, but Lupin made him feel comfortable, at home, and safe.
A tad late, Lupin rushed into the classroom, robes billowing behind him, he really did fit the professor archetype, Teddy thought.
"All right class! Welcome Third-Years!" Lupin stood at his desk looking out at his students, "today we are not doing to be following a typical lesson plan! Let's get up and move these desks, create a clear path. Up up, let's go!" He clapped his hands eagerly as students started getting up, confused, and moved the desks again the walls so the middle was clear.
"Okay! Great work already, I can tell we're going to get along." Lupin winked at Teddy, Harry, and Ron. Teddy couldn't help but smile, he was fine being the teacher's favorite.
Lupin walked towards one end of the floor, where he placed his briefcase down, his case then rattled, causing some students to jump in surprise.
"It's nothing to be afraid of," Lupin promised, "In this case is a Boggart, does anyone know what that is?"
Hermionie's hand shot up in the air, she smiled, she was prepared. Teddy always admired that about her, he wished he could answer questions with the confidence and correctness that she did.
"Yes, Miss Granger?" Lupin prompted.
"A boggart is a magical creature that takes upon the appearance of what the individual it encounters most fears."
"Correct! Thank you Miss Granger. Yes, that is what a boggart is, they are low level menaces, but can inflict quite a bit of mental damage, so it's useful to know how to combat them. And that's what we're going to do today. Now, class, if you could make a line at -ah, Neville- you'll go first, make a line behind Neville. We're going to confront it!
"Now, I found this boggart in a supply closet, I asked Mr Filtch to keep his eyes open for one, specifically to use for our first class. Okay Neville, I'm going to ask you to step up towards the case, and I;m going to open it. Don't worry, the boggart can't hurt you. You're going to look directly at it, confidently, and say 'Ridickulus' Alright Neville?"
Neville nodded, looking weary but stepped up towards the case, where Lupin opened it.
Teddy watched, the class leaned forward to catch a glimpse of the creature that sprouted out of the case and morphed into Professor Snape. Neville's face scrunched up and his shoulders sagged, as Teddy watched as he tried to make himself smaller.
The class snickered, especially the Slytherin, and Lupin raised his eyebrows but remained serious as he spoke to Neville, "Remember Neville, be confident, and think of something funny. You live with your grandmother right? Maybe think of her clothes. Now point your wand, take a deep breath, and say 'Ridickulous'." Lupin was calm, kind, but stern, showing Neville he believed in him.
Teddy watched as Neville took a deep breath, a step forward, raised his want and said. "Ridickulous".
Boggart Snape quickly morphed into Snape wearing an extravagant bright pink hat with feathers, crazy old lady jewelry, and big dangle and drop earrings. The class laughed as boggart Snape stumbled around, confused why it wasn't instilling fear.
"Excellent work Neville!" Lupin gushed, a smile on his face. "Now, next in line step forward"
Neville moved to the back, a girl stepped forward and the boggart transformed into a clown, large and looming, the girl shouted "Ridickulous!" And it suddenly was bouncing up and down, uncontrollably, as students laughed.
The line moved and one by one, the boggart transformed into fears, spiders, moths, centipedes, a skeleton, a mummy, and one by one the fears were proved ridiculous.
Harry was in front of Teddy, and as Harry stepped up towards the boggart, Teddy watched as Lupin got a look for concern on his face, and stepped out from behind the boggart case, in front of Harry, and in front of the boggart. Teddy felt a chill, a breeze almost, as the lights dimmed, the classroom got dark, and the boggart transformed into a full moon, bright and high in the sky. Students behind them whispered confused, while Lupin stepped up, with smooth confidence, said "Ridickulous" and the moon popped like a balloon, as Lupin caught it in his briefcase and latched it shut.
"Well," Professor Lupin turned, facing his students, as the room regained its normal lighting, the chill leaving the air "That was quite an interesting series of events. You all did amazing but I believe class is over. Remeber to read chapter two before our next lesson!" He waved his wand, the chairs and desks floating weightlessly back to its original positioning, as Lupin walked back to his desk, the class wandering out, gushing about their new favorite professor and the crazy day this was turning out to be.
Teddy was confused. So was Harry by the looks of it. Teddy turned to Harry and Ron, "I'm going to talk to him. We were the only two who didn't get to face the boggart, there must be a reason why."
Ron shrugged, and Harry urged him to drop it, that they would be late to their next class. But Teddy didn't, he told them to go ahead and he'd catch up later.
He needed to talk to Professor Remus Lupin. He wanted answers. And he wasn't above listening to the whisperings of professors in the hallways and durning the welcome feast, he knew something was going on, and maybe Professor Lupin had some answers.
