Chapter 7

They played a few rounds of chicken and macro polo. They stayed in until their fingers looked like raisins. They all slowly got out of the pool the only ones that remained were Mike and El. El's legs wrapped around Mike's waist and his arm wrapped around her midriff to hold her up. Their faces slowly were going closer together as they were whispering things to one another. Lucas leaned over to Max "How long do you think it's going to be before they start making out?" Max laughed and turned to look at Mike and El, "My guess is like 30 seconds" Proving Max wrong their lips connected. Lucas looks over at her, "looks like you guessed 30 seconds off" Max laughed at his comment. "You guys seriously need a night alone," Will said to Mike and El causing them to break apart. "Tell me something I don't know" Mike mumbled.

Mike rolled his eyes and let out a disappointing sigh when El unlatched her legs from around his waist and started to get out of the pool. Dustin and Will left to go back to the room leaving behind the two couples. Max and Lucas followed close behind as Mike and El dried off. El was sitting on one of the chairs that were set up. Mike slowly walked over and reached out a hand to help her up. She took a hold of his hand and they headed back up to the hotel room. It was the same setup as the night before. The couples in one room and Will and Dustin in their room. They all took turns in the shower so they could get cleaned off from the pool. Eventually, they all got settled into bed. El was the first to drift off to sleep after her fun time at the pool.

The next day they wasted no time to get on the road, they had one more night before they arrived in California. They were on their way to Arizona! Before they set off, they stopped for breakfast at a small diner. They all ate quickly and headed out to the Van. Mike took the wheel and El sat in the passenger's seat. Will and Dustin are in the middle and Lucas and Max are in the back.

They had been driving for a while and Mike was so focused on driving that he hadn't noticed his girlfriend who was staring at him. El bit down on her lower lip as she observed her boyfriend. She couldn't think of a good enough word to describe him. His puffy pink lips and freckled cheeks, his distinguished nose, sharp jawline, and those raven curls she loved to run her fingers through. The only word that came to her mind was beautiful. It wasn't a word she would use to describe many boys, but it was the only word that got close to describing how perfect her Mike was. Mike sensing her stare turned to look at her. Their eyes met and he sent her a smile before grabbing her hand and looking forward at the road once again. God his smile sent shivers down her spine and caused butterflies to irrupt in her stomach.

Dustin was looking out of the car window when he noticed El practically eye raping Mike. He rolled his eyes in disgust. Dustin had not had much luck with his relationships in the past, a few years back he had been in a long-distance relationship with Suzie, a girl who he had met at summer camp. They called it quits after a few months of dating. After that, he did not really get involved with many other girls just focusing on having a good high school experience without any drama. So, he continued to pick on his friends in their relationships and lucky for him Mike and El gave him lots of opportunities for just that.

"El you are eye raping Mike" Dustin commented. El scoffed at Dustin's remark. "Oh, come on Dustin, can it!" Mike said annoyed. Causing Will to let out a chuckle. "They are cute sometimes you know," Max said. Everyone turned to look at her surprised at what she had said "Did you mean to say that out loud?" Mike questioned. "Yeah, don't let that get to your head." Max smiled before snuggling up to Lucas and closing her eyes. Lucas let out a laugh before pulling her closer into his embrace.

After a few more hours of driving, they found a motel to stay in for the night. When they arrived, they found out that they had one single room available as well as a double, but the one problem was that both couples wanted the single bedroom. So, they did the only reasonable thing, rock paper scissors. Unfortunately for Mike and El, Lucas and Max took the victory.  They ordered in some food and decided to head to bed early.

Max was getting into her pajamas while Lucas was already in bed reading a book he had brought for the trip. Once Max was all ready, she joined Lucas in the bed. She snuggled up beside him as she flipped through a magazine that she had found in the motel room. "Do you sometimes wish like we were more lovey-dovey like Mike and Eleven?" Lucas questioned as he looked over at Max. "No, not really I like us. We have our moments" Max smiled. "Why do you?" Max asked shifting so she could look at him better. "No, I like us too. I was just noticing how affectionate Mike and El have been lately and how we aren't like that" Lucas explained. "Yeah that's because they are horny and haven't had any alone time or a good opportunity to actually get it on," Max said laughing "touché," Lucas said, "Maybe we should have let them have the room?" Lucas sighed "maybe, but too late now" Max smirked.

"Are you excited to see your dad tomorrow?" Lucas asked. "Yeah, kind of nervous since it's been a year or two since I've seen him, but it should go great." She smiled. "Okay well if there is anything you want to talk about, I'm here for you" Lucas reassured before pulling her close." "Thanks, Lucas," She said before connecting their lips After a few seconds Max pulled away and said, "See we can be cute" She smiled. Lucas chuckled before turning and shutting off the lamp on the bedside table.
