Chapter 28

El had made it half the drive before falling asleep in Mike's arms in the cab. Mike paid before carrying El into the hotel to the elevator and into their room. He laid her down on the bed and kissed her forehead before walking over and moving to shut the blinds. "Leave them open." El twisted over to face where he stood near the window. "I'll leave them open." He said before smiling at her and asking. "How about you get into some more comfortable clothes? want me to find you some?" he suggested. "I can get some," El said before standing up and walking over to the dresser into which she has stuffed her clothes. She got into some jogging pants and a baggy shirt. Mike decided to change as well and got into some pajama pants and a plain white t-shirt.

El sat down on the bed and looked out the window. "El, I still don't fully understand what happened back there, and I don't want you to keep bottling up what your thinking and your emotions. I need you to talk to me." Mike said Sitting next to her. "I know." El sighed. Mike sighed before tucking a few strands of hair behind her ear. El looked up at Mike. "I keep- I keep seeing that man. Usually, it's just for a quick second and then he is gone the next. I keep having dreams about him and what happened. One time it wasn't me he was with, but he somehow got Max. Last night in my dream I didn't have a voice, I couldn't yell for help or tell him to stop. He never stops. Then today I saw him standing on the beach. All he did was look at me and smile. I didn't- I couldn't let him get to me again so I was gonna use my powers. I didn't want him to come near me or anyone again. He seemed so real I didn't even realize what I was about to do." She said putting her face into her hands.

"El why didn't you tell me about this before? We could have seen if we could come up with a solution or a way for you to let me know you needed some time to yourself." Mike questioned. El stayed silent only letting out an uneven breath "El please look at me." he said before slowly pulling her shaky hands down from her face and taking them in his. She looked up and met his gaze. "I just- I feel like my problems always ruin everything. I just always eff everything up." She said voice cracking. "El that's not true in any way. You are so brave and you are not ruining anything. okay?" Mike said. El nodded her head as her lip wobbled. "Come here." Mike sighed before wrapping his arms around her.

El leaned into Mike's embrace. "You are so strong and you have survived so much and I am so proud of you," Mike said. They were silent for a moment, The only sound was Els sniffles. "Oh god, Mike I made such a scene in front of everyone," El said pulling away from Mike to look up at his face. "It's okay El. It's not a big deal. They were just worried about you." He said. "I'm so embarrassed." She said burying her face in his chest. Mike just pulled her closer. "You don't have to be El they will understand."
Mike and El talked for another hour before laying in bed and watching a movie.

The rest of the party minus Mike and El were just getting out of the water sometime in the late afternoon. Alayia laughed as Dustin carried her over his shoulder and back to their beach towel. Lucas and Max were already standing by the towel and were ready to go. "Give us a call tonight and let us know how El is feeling," Destiny said to Will. "Will do. See you guys tomorrow?" Will added. "Of course." Matt said and then added, "We can come up with a plan when we talk on the phone." Will nodded and the rest of the group said their goodbyes before heading their separate ways.

They walked half an hour back to the hotel and then made their way over to the elevator. "Should we all go in?" Dustin asked "Probably not. She seemed really upset." Will said. "From what I saw it looked like she was gonna use her powers," Lucas said. "Must have been something bad then," Dustin said. Max nodded and then said, "I'll go check on them."

Max knocked on their door while everyone else made their way back into Dustins room to hang out. She could hear the sound of muffled voices on the T.V playing. She heard the sound of footsteps approaching and then the door opened to reveal Mike. He smiled at her and stepped outside of the room. Mike stepped out to join Max in the hallway shutting the door behind him.

"Is she okay?" Max asked. "She's doing better but I'm still worried about her. She fell asleep like 20 minutes ago." Mike replied. "Is there anything I can do to help?" Max asked. "I mean I'm gonna go see the guys for a second and run something by them. So you can go sit with her if you want. Are they all together?" Mike said opening the door for Max to go in and see El. "I think they are in Dustin's room," Max replied before walking into Mike and Els's room.

Mike walked over to Dustin's room and knocked on the door. Dustin answered the door. "Hey Mike, how is El?" He asked as he let Mike into the room. "She's doing a bit better now, but I was just gonna let you guys know I think we are gonna take a day just to relax tomorrow. Is that alright with you guys?" Mike said to the group of guys. "Yes, of course, I'm sure we can all find something to do," Lucas said and Will nodded his agreement. Mike sat down on the bed next to Will. "I'll let Matt and the others know later." Will said patting Mike on the shoulder.

Max closed the door behind her as Mike walked over to Dustin's room. She turned to see El on her tummy facing the TV asleep. Her hair was pushed away from her face. She assumed from Mike playing with her hair. She smiled slightly before sitting down on the bed resting her back against the headboard. El stirred, "Mike?" she said. Max smiled and said, "Hey sleepyhead, it's Max." El opened her eyes and sat up, "Where did you come from?" El questioned lazily. Max let out a laugh, "We just got back from the beach and I wanted to come to see you." Max explained.

El smiled and sat up and moved up closer to Max and snuggled into her side. Max wrapped her arm around El and hugged her close. "You okay El?" Max said resting her head on top of El's. "Sometimes I feel a bit better and other times I just can't stop thinking about what happened," El said sighing. Max held her tighter. "I'm sorry El, I wish there was something that I could do." El smiled "You being here just helps. I feel so bad about earlier."  She said.  "El you have nothing to feel bad about don't worry." El nodded before wrapping an arm around Max.

Mike smiled when he came back into the room to find Max and El both asleep cuddled together on the bed. Instead of waking them, he decided he would just go spend some time with Lucas who had just told him that he and Max were going to watch a movie. Mike knocked on Lucas's door. "Hey, Mike where is Max? I figured she would've come back by now," Lucas said after opening the door. "She and El fell asleep and I don't want to wake them," Mike explained. Lucas let out a laugh "Well we can hang out for a bit then" Lucas said.

An hour later Max and El knocked on the door. "You guys finally awake?" Lucas said. Max just gave him a grumpy look before walking over to their bed while El leaned into Mike. Mike kissed El on the top of the head while he and Lucas finished up the conversation they were having before the girls had made their way over to the room.
