Alora Lin

"How do you think this one looks?" I questioned, twirling around in the gown.

"Too simple," Padma remarked, taking a sip out of her champagne glass.

I huffed. At this rate, we were never going to find the perfect wedding dress.

"I feel like I've tried on every dress in this store," I whined. "None of them are how I imagined my dream dress to be."

"It's going to take time, babe," Padma stated. "Remember when we went shopping for my wedding dress? We had to visit about ten different stores."

I laughed, "How could I forget?"

"Here, try this one," she suggested, taking a lacy gown off of the rack and handing it to me. "You love lace, right?"

"I do, but I don't know if I can pull this one off."

"Oh shut it," she brushed me off. "Just try it on."

I took the dress from her and headed back into the fitting room.

My head was spinning, refusing to believe that I was going to get married in a few months. Padma was going to be my maid of honor, and I, of course, was going to be hers.

Her wedding was coming up next month. She had found a beachside venue in Greece for the special occasion.

Theo and I, on the other hand, were planning on getting married at a luxurious palace in Italy in May.

I stepped out of the fitting room once I had changed into the other wedding dress. "How's this?"

Padma nearly choked on her drink as she looked up at me. "Alora..."

"What?" I furrowed my brows, walking up to the mirror. "Oh... wow."

The dress looked gorgeous on the hanger, but I wasn't expecting it to look so stunning on me. It hugged my curves perfectly, accentuating my best features and hiding my insecurities. It had the perfect amount of lace—not too much and not too little—making it both sophisticated and sexy.

"Babe," Padma beamed, standing up from her seat. "I think we've found the one."

I gulped, suddenly feeling a bit of cold feet now that all of this was becoming more real.

"What's wrong?" Padma walked up behind me, placing a hand lovingly on my lower back.

"Nothing's wrong," I tried to muster a smile.

"Alora," she put her hands on her hips. "We've been best friends for ages. I can tell when something's wrong."

I sighed, circling around to look her in the eyes, "I'm just scared. We're about to get married, meaning that we have to spend the rest of our lives with the same person. How does that not scare you?"

She shrugged casually, "It does, but I know I wouldn't want to spend it with anyone else."

My breath caught in my throat at her words.

I was infiltrated with doubts as another man's face appeared in my mind. I shook it off, blinking rapidly before stepping off the short pedestal to pour myself a glass of champagne.

"Alora..." Padma hesitated. "Is everything okay with you and Theo?"

"Yeah, of course. Why wouldn't they be?" I took a huge gulp of champagne.
