Alora Lin

"Lottie, can you hang this up in my closet? Put it somewhere where Theo won't be able to find it."

I handed the wedding dress I had purchased to Lottie's small hands, thanking her as she scurried up our staircase.

"Theo?" I called out, setting down my purse and coat on a nearby rack.

"In here!" he responded.

I ambled down the hallway, eventually reaching the living room where I had heard his voice echo from. His back was turned to me as he stood in front of a table, pouring out two glasses of champagne.

"Find a dress you like?" he questioned.

"Yes," I smirked, walking up to him and wrapping my arms around him from behind. "But you won't get to see it until our wedding day."

"Hmm," he hummed, turning around and resting his hands on my lower back. "Can't wait." He leaned down and gently kissed my lips.

He offered me a champagne glass, but I put my hand up in decline, "No thanks. If I drink any more champagne, I'll probably throw up."

Theo chuckled before bringing it up to his lips. "I'm guessing it's been a long day?"

I scoffed, "You can say that again. I probably tried about– Theo... what's wrong?"

I placed a hand on his upper back, patting it as he hunched over and started coughing. The champagne glass fell out of his hands, causing it to shatter against the hardwood floor.

He tried to respond, but his repetitive gasps for air and incessant coughing told me that he hadn't just simply choked on the drink. I soon started seeing foaming at the edge of his lips before his knees gave way and he fell to the floor.

"Theo!" I cried out, collapsing on my knees before him. "Lottie! Help!"

My fingers were shaking as I moved him onto his side. I was in so much shock from seeing him in this state that I struggled to rack my brain for some kind of healing spell.

"What the fuck is happening?" my voice trembled as I whispered to myself. "Fuck, Alora. Come on, think."

I rubbed my thumb gently against his shoulder, trying to calm him down as his entire body continued shaking. My vision became blurry once tears started brimming my eyes.

"Accio bezoar!" I finally let out, stretching out my hand as I waited for the bezoar from our medicine cabinet to fly into my grasp.

At last, I felt the cool stone against the skin of my palm. I moved Theo onto his back as I forced the bezoar into his mouth and down his throat. "Please..." I cried. "Please work."

The foaming gradually disappeared, and Theo's body ceased shaking. He laid still on the ground with his eyes closed. I hiccuped as the tears started falling down my cheeks. I pressed two fingers against his neck in search of his pulse point.

I felt a heartbeat.

"Please, Theo," I whispered, lightly placing my hands on his chest. "Wake up, darling."

His eyes burst open, and he let out a loud gasp. Theo's chest was heaving as he tried to recover his breath. He turned to me–his eyes lost in befuddlement.

"You're okay," I sighed out in relief, pulling him into my chest for a tight hug. "For fuck's sake, I thought I'd lost you."

He was still too shaken up to respond. He lifted a hand, resting it on my shoulder as he tried to hug me back with as much energy as he could muster.
