The next day at school was pretty normal. No panic attacks or anything. And fortunately no questions Emma couldn't answer. Still, she couldn't quite keep her focus on her classes. Her thoughts drifted off to yesterday's training. At lunch she sat at their usual table with her friends. Here and there Emma said something but she didn't really listen to what her friends were talking about. To everyone's surprise one of their teachers had to leave early and there was no substitute for them.

Earlier than usual Emma stepped out of the building. Most of her classmates were walking home or to a nearby park. Saying goodbye to some of her classmates, she fished her phone out of her bag and called Happy to come pick her up. It would take him a bit to get there so Emma sat down on the stairs in front of the school.

"Not going home, Ems?" Sophie came up to her from behind and sat down beside her.

"I'm just waiting. My ride's gonna be here in a bit."

They sat there for a while talking until Sophie had to go to catch her bus. Soon after Happy picked her up. She had already finished her homework while waiting. On the ride back to the compound she went through the notes a Shield agent had sent them. She had more experience with inhumans than anyone else. She also had sent some extra notes on learning to control powers.

"Imma just drop you off. Spidey has lab day." Emma waved Happy goodbye before walking into the lobby.

In the elevator, on her way up Emma put her hair up in a messy bun, in her hurry a few strands were left out. Without going to the common floors she went to the training area. She had to learn to control her powers before she accidentally froze or fried someone. Again. And the nearly constant anxiety was not really helping. She had to keep track of her emotions and couldn't let them get the better of her.

Friday that week everyone mourned the heroine Blue Moon. It was strange seeing so many people mourn for you without actually knowing it was you. Seeing Ned hugging Peter in an attempt to comfort him was the weirdest thing for Emma. Peter, after all, knew that Blue Moon wasn't dead but literally standing right beside them, while Ned only knew of Peter's hero activities. Not hers.

For the next few weeks Emma slowly got a better hold of her powers, though it was more difficult to aim the fire than ice. Aside from training she often found herself awake at night. She would often sit on the balcony at night. Often Loki or Pepper joined her. They both were still freaked out by seeing the girl sitting there in a shirt while the cold breeze made them shiver a little. They had to remind themselves that the teen now had the ability to regulate her body temperature at will.

Their late night talks really helped Emma. She zoned out less often in class and she kinda got used to the flashbacks. She had a few other panic attacks but not in school.

"I'm just sayin'...you guys are literally the closest to having the most amazing costumes."

Emma looked at her friend. Honestly she didn't really understand why the halloween party meant so much to him. She wasn't really planning to go. Crowds alone were not easy for her these days. And after hearing the motto she didn't want to come at all. "Maybe. But I can't just... borrow my dad's suit or Cap's shield… that'd be quite obvious."

MJ and Ned were still trying to convince Emma to go but nothing seemed to help.

"I told you already I won't go. Besides it's probably gonna be boring. I mean what scary stuff can you do with 'heroes' as a motto?" She was walking away from the group to join Sophie. "Later."

Together with Sophia, Emma went to gym class. Most of their classmates had already changed into their sportswear. Nearly everyone was wearing their long sleeve-shirts since the coach wanted to train their stamina outside. Sophie and Emma changed too, before joining their class.
