"Okay…can we speed up a little. We got a press conference in New York."
A sigh of relief escaped Emma as her dad lowered his phone.
"So no Smith?"
"No Smith. Superpowers are a bit easier to hide than a whole life…"
They sat down next to each other. Emma was still in her suit but she didn't mind. This would be her only mask after the press conference. "Thanks…" She leaned against her dad while they looked out of the window.
"Don't regret it afterwards, okay?"
"I'll only regret it if you show up on career day in school or something…" She punched him teasingly but their little banter was interrupted as Sam stood up to get his phone charger. They had completely forgotten about him.
The Agent-in-training plugged his phone in before he turned to the father-daughter-duo. "I really didn't mean to eavesdrop or anything but what were you talking about? It seemed to be something important and you mentioned Director Fury…"
Wide eyed Emma stared at him before looking at her dad. Then she stood up and walked over to Peter. "Your turn."
Tony glared at her but she just pulled out her own phone and joined Peter's game. Sam stood in front of him. The boy was in his Shield uniform but he seemed rather comfortable.
"You're not the only one with two lives, kinda. Remember my intern, your classmate?"
Confused as to where this was going, Johnson nodded his head yes. "Emma. Emma Smith. Yeah. What about her?" He was really oblivious.
"Yeah, well, may I introduce you. Johnson that is Emma. Emma Stark, my daughter." He pointed at Emma. Her face mask had retracted into her suit while she concentrated on the game she was playing on her phone.
"What…"
Tony stood up to walk to the cockpit. He patted the boy's shoulder as he processed what the billionaire had just said. "With Shield you signed up for this crazy shit…"
They quinjet landed at the compound a little later. Sam had finally processed what Tony had told him and he had nearly burst with questions. Tony and Nat simply told him to wait for the press conference.
The conference room was slowly getting fuller while the heroes went up to the common floor to meet up with the others before facing the questions of the press. The first part of the press conference was going to be all about the new extensions of the team of heroes and the fight in Portland. Pepper opened up the conference before Steve took over the mic. He explained why the heroes had been in Portland in the first place and how that was connected with the recent attacks on Midtown Tech. After he explained what the gang had been doing he opened the first round of questions.
Of course the first question was about Emma. She stood behind Steve together with Peter, Sam, Nat and Tony. "This question is to the new vigilante. Who are you and why are you working so closely with Spider-Man?"
Emma grabbed the microphone Steve handed her before thinking for a moment. She had never thought about a new hero-name since she had never planned to make this a regular thing. But now she was sure this wouldn't go away anytime soon. She had superpowers and if she ignored them it would feel like she tried to walk through the world blind. Just like Peter always said: with great power there must also come great responsibility. She had the power to protect the innocents. She would use it.
"To the second question: Spidey and I sometimes train together and therefore we were together when the fights took place. We're friends…and for the question I honestly don't have an answer. I haven't really thought about it to be honest. Maybe some people out there have some great ideas I could use. We'll see."
