you look at dre who was looking somewhere else as the principle was explaining the dress codes. you follow his glance, seeing the certain boy playing around with his friends. you sigh, knowing that trouble would stir after what happened yesterday.

before you knew it, aunt sherry took dre's cap off, exposing the oddly bright skin color just below his eye. "yeah i should've-" aunt sherry completely forget what she was about to say as she took dre by the chin and forced him to look at her.

"dre? is that make-up?" she wipes the make-up off with her thumb, revealing the black eye. "mom, i ran into a pole." his excuse was lame as ever as you turned away and face-palmed.

"no dre, you got into a fight" aunt sherry concernly says as she looks at her son's eye. "fighting is not tolerated here." the principle says, putting her hands behind her back. "you heard him, he ran into a pole" aunt sherry says, pulling dre to the side.

"mom, don't start-" "who did it?" you hear aunt sherry demand for an answer. "nobody mom, i ran into a pole. i ain't tell you cause i knew you would react like this." you hear him say.

"y/n, did he run into a pole?" you turn around, looking at dre who had a pleading expression on his face. "we were playing basketball at the park and dre didn't see the pole and ran into it.." you say, dre's eyes widened as he didn't expect you to cover for him.

"alright, dre. alright, alright! look, go to class and we'll talk about this later. okay? alright, go!" she takes her hands off of his face as he immediately runs beside you. "i love you!" she says as you and dre walk further into the gates.

"mom!?" he complains, "i said i love you" she repeats. dre looks around, hoping no one was looking, "okay, i love you too" he whispers. "okay, have a good day you two!" she waves before walking the other direction.

"phew.." you hear him say under his breath. "dre, you know she was only looking out for you, right?" you say. he shakes his head, "i knew she would react that way though. i mean, i could've handled the fight myself-" "but you didn't" you interrupted him.

"without me being there to stop it, you would've ended up in worse condition than just that black eye." "well- i-" he tries protesting. "cya later, dre. don't get into to much trouble" you nudge his arm before departing ways.

you look at the schedule the principle handed you earlier, seeing that you had english first. you walk towards the door, taking a few deep breaths before entering. you look around, seeing the classroom being much different from the ones back in detroit. "goodmorning, y/n. i heard you'd be transferring here."

"would you mind if you introduce yourself first?" she asks, you nod, facing the students who were already looking at you. "if you don't mind, i'll go ahead and translate what you say since the students here aren't very fluent in english" "of course." you respond.

"hello, everyone." "大家好" the teacher translates shortly. "uhm.." you put your hands behind your back, feeling your palms starting to get sweaty. "my name is y/n. and i currently moved from detroit" "我的名字是 y/n。我现在从底特律搬来" "-i hope we all could get along and soon form a friendship with one another.. uh.. thanks." you awkwardly end the introduction. "我希望我们都能相处融洽,早日建立友谊"

you hear a few of the students scoff while whispering in chinese to one another. "啧啧,友情?/ tsk, friendship?" "not bad for your first impression and introduction, y/n. please sit beside cheng and he'll be your partner for the school year" you look at the students, not seeing anyone raising their hand.

the teacher sighs, "cheng, please raise your hand." in which he does this time. you shoot him a disgusted look as you knew the familiar face of his. it was the same boy at the park in which you already disliked him upon seeing him. you slowly make your way next to him, seeing him eyeing you from the corner of your eye.
