Morgan looked downright pensive when I told her about the upcoming reveal with Don and Liz. That is not a common facial expression for Morgan to wear.
"Do you think I should tell Janie?" Morgan asked.
OK. Now I understand the expression.
"Yes." I told her as factually as I could sound with only one word.
Morgan studied me, looking for clues. "As simple as that?"
"Yes."
"What about Mike?" Morgan pushed me for more details.
"No." I told her. I know she is probing for more than one-word answers, but while I have answers, the reasons for them are still floating up from my subconscious. I could hyper-time it and mull it over, but Morgan would know I did that. That's one of her capabilities too. In fact, as far as I know, we are the only two that have that. I let the thoughts bubble up the old-fashioned way instead.
"I should tell Janie, but not Mike? That seems unfair. Also, it is very unlike you to advise me thus." Morgan said.
Something crystallized. "Morgan. We love Janie. We don't love Mike. We tell her, and we support her in however she wants to present this new world idea to Mike. You don't tell Mike. You are not involved with him. Not anymore."
"If Janie wants to come over?" Morgan asked.
"Then I think we use your VMC serum on her." I said.
"I was not looking for a technical answer, Adrian, and you know it." Morgan scolded me lightly.
"I do know it, but a technical answer is the only answer I can give you right now. My brain is still processing this. What is clear to me at this moment is that: Yes. Absolutely. Janie can turn if she wants to. You want her to. You know you do. Who knows if Janie would make that choice? We love her, but do we know what she would choose? My parents have had a long time to think about it. For Janie, it would be a huge new world, and it has consequences. Every other single thing falls from her decision. Her well-informed decision. We'll give her all of the facts. Including the downsides. Having to hide. Keeping the secret. Changing identities all the damn time. Becoming long-lived when involved with ephemerals. None of it is your or my decision despite what we may want her to do. It is her decision to make. It is her life and her humanity. Her family, no matter how weirdly functional and dysfunctional at the same time that it is right now. You and her son are the two pillars of her happy life. Is that enough? Only Janie can say."
"I see. You are saying I am too close to it to make rational choices here and am not seeing the larger picture." Morgan again studied me. "You have never taken Janie up on her threesome idea. Why?"
"You should signal before you change lanes, lady. She is your lover." I said
"You are my heart." Morgan said.
"Morgan my sweet love: You are usually pretty good at Vampire perspective. Get some here. If Janie wants to be with me, and she turns, we have time. If she does not turn, then you are involved with an ephemeral and I will not steal a moment of it from you."
"I see. Even if in sharing my time with Janie with you it makes it even better for me?" Morgan probed the fallacy of my argument.
"I am still getting used to the idea that you have a side lover that is only yours, and I have a side lover that is only mine. Janie feels different to me than Victoria though. Victoria is friends with benefits, with a side of sleeping with the boss for spice. That's all there is to it. It is not a love of the ages. It is what Holly is for Helen."
"Understood. No one thinks you are with Victoria because you want to marry her." Morgan agreed.
"No. Not even when we have a kid. I just don't see it. I respect her. I love her, in a way. Victoria's life and passions are for all of Vampiredom. Leading it. Helping it to the future. My part of it for her is every now and then knocking the edge off. When she gets buzzy from being horny and just needs to knock off a piece. I'm that piece. I'm convenient. I am right there. I know what she likes. Frankly, we are more sexually compatible than I am with Vera. But I love Vera, so..."
