When Aurora woke up the next morning it was early, very early, which she wasn't to upset about. This gave her time to get herself ready.
She got up, putting on one of her favorite dresses and pulling her hair up, leaving two strands down on the front.
She headed out to the kitchen, where she saw her mother standing, with a hand on her face.
"Are you alright?" Aurora knitted her brows as she walked towards the distressed woman.
"I'd like you to take this basket down to Gilbert's house, Mary isn't well and I'd like to show our courtesy." Her mother spoke, handing her a basket of blueberry muffins.
"Sure, what's wrong with her?" Aurora blinked in confusion.
"She's sick." Her mother sighed. "That's all you need to know for now."
Aurora simply nodded before slipping on her boots and heading out the door. As she walked down the path she heard someone running up behind her, reaching her side.
"Where you headed little lady?" Moody smiled.
"Don't call me that." Aurora gave him the side eye. "I'm heading to Gilbert's to visit Mary."
"Mind if I come along?"
"You're not getting a muffin."
"Who said I wanted one?"
"You always want a muffin when I have them."
"That's not fair, your moms a really good cook."
Aurora rolled her eyes. "You're a pain."
"But you love it." Moody sent her a wink.
"Don't test me Spurgeon." She grinned stopping and turning and pressing a finger to his chest.
"You can't deny it Evans." He smirked, grabbing the girls waist and pulling her closer to him.
Aurora didn't move out of shock, she locked eyes with the taller boy. She didn't know what was gonna happen next, but she definitely didn't expect him to snatch a muffin from the basket before turning back into his original position, leaving the girl standing on pure shock.
Moody laughed loudly as he took a bite of the muffin.
"You suck." Aurora rolled her eyes speed walking to Gilbert's house which wasn't to far from where they were now.
Moody was hunched over with laughter before noticing the girl who was almost to the door of the house.
"Hey! Ari wait for me!" He called, running up to the door where Aurora was now standing and knocking on the door where Gilbert answered.
"Oh, hi Aurora, hello Moody." Gilbert tipped his hat to the both of them, before Anne appeared behind him.
"Hi Gilbert, nice to see you again, I brought these muffins for you all, I heard Mary isn't feeling well." Aurora grinned.
Gilbert's face fell. "Yes.. you can come in if you'd like, I was just about to head out."
"Sure that'd be great." Aurora smiled while Gilbert began walking off, Anne stepped out of the door but Aurora pulled her to the side.
"Somethin.. goin on between you guys." She smirked.
Anne rolled her eyes. "I can assure you that there's not."
Aurora nodded slowly, holding her smirk as Anne began to leave.
Her and Moody headed inside. Aurora knew her way around, she's known Gilbert for a while now, they weren't very close but she always came to visit him and his dad before he passed away, and she had got to meet Mary and Sebastian a few times.
She lead Moody to Mary's room, knocking on the door frame as Mary, who was laying in bed looked over with a smile once she saw who was there.
"Aurora, come in." She smiled, Mary always had such a beautiful smile, she was such a sweet woman.
"Hi Mary." Aurora smiled as she sat on the edge of her bed. "How are you feeling?"
"Fine and dandy." She joked. "What's in the basket?"
"Blueberry muffins." Aurora smiled.
"My recipe?"
"Always."
Mary smiled as Aurora handed her the basket. "Thank you, sweet girl." Mary leaned up, and pinched the girls cheek.
Aurora could tell she wasn't feeling well, her smile was weak and her voice was raspy. God she felt terrible for the woman.
Mary looked to Moody who was still standing in the doorway.
"Who's this?"
"Oh, that's Moody."
"Boyfriend?" Mary smirked.
"Just a friend." Moody chuckled.
Just a friend. Aurora couldn't help but drop her smile a little bit. Were they just friends? Yes. Did it hurt? Yes.
Mary nodded.
Aurora stood. "We better get going, I wouldn't want mom to worry, you know how she is."
Mary laughed. "Ya I know, tell Ian I said hello."
"I will don't worry." She leaned down and hugged the woman who hugged back before kissing Aurora on the forehead. "Bye, sweet girl."
"Bye Mary." Aurora smiled before dragging Moody back through the house and out the door, shutting it behind them.
Aurora suddenly collapsed on the ground. At first Moody thought something was wrong, I mean she was sitting on her knees on the ground, but he soon heard small sobs coming from the girl.
"Why her?" She spoke softly.
"What?" Moody leaned down next to the girl.
"Mary.. she's dying I know it, she's sick and she's not getting better." Tears streamed down the girls face, she forced a smile inside for Mary but she couldn't handle it any longer, it hurt to see her like that.
Moody grabbed the girls face, turning it towards him. "Hey, Mary's gonna be fine. She's strong."
Aurora nodded as Moodys wiped her tears with both his thumbs. He helped her stand, and grabbed her hand before starting to walk again.
They walked back to Moodys house on silence, they had decided that she was going to spend a couple hours there considering she had nothing else to do.
As they reached his house they headed inside. Moodys grandma was out for the day so it was quiet in the house.
Aurora went straight to the boys room, flopping down onto his bed after taking her boots off.
"Tired?" Moody asked, lying next to the girl.
"Mhm." She responded, shoving her face into a pillow.
The last thing she remembered was falling asleep while Moody played with strands of her hair.
