GENEVIEVE

"Who are you?" I asked the guy as soon as I saw him after entering the house.

"I'm Jake, I'm 'mara's business partner." I looked at their hands and then narrowed my eyes. I'm going to have to check what this one's up to.

"I'm going to have to ask you to come back later." I replied as Luca went upstairs and called down the others. Jake nodded.

"Yeah of course." He picked up his stuff, kissed Amara's cheek and was out the door faster than I could blink.

"Something wrong, Gen?" Amara asked.

I must've looked worried, because everyone else mirrored my expression. I was worried. "Wait till everyone's here." I replied, my heart feeling like it would explode.

Moments after, Luca came down with a very confused Carina and an emotionless Alex. I motioned everyone to gather around me in a semicircle. I took a deep breath in and held Carina and Alex's hands in mine. This was it. It was time.

"Look farfalle, I've been meaning to tell you this for some time now, and now couldn't be a better time." The two glanced at each other, then looked back at me. I took that as a sign to continue. "Well, the reason you two were kidnapped at the age of two, why you two didn't meet us till you were sixteen," I turned to focus on Carina, "why you were chased that day at the mall, all of that is not just because of some business rivalry. Partially, yes, but no, that's not the complete truth."

I took a brief pause, re-thinking telling them about the true reason behind everything going on around. But now it was too late to turn back. They deserved to know the truth. "This all has been happening, because we are the Italian mafia." I stopped to see their reactions. Carina's eyes widened and her lips slightly parted as she gaped at me.

I tried to avoid her gaze, remembering that she hated fights and violence. I looked at Alex instead. Surprisingly, the look on her face was passive, as if I had just told her we own a pizza place instead of a whole entire mafia. I decided to tell them the whole story.

"This is not something new. Our great grandfather started this mafia. It has been in our family for ages, passing down to each generation."

Carina's eyes were still fixed on me and Al looked lost in thought; I doubted either of them were listening, but I continued.

"Listen, I'm not forcing you both to join us. Neither am I telling you to make a decision right now. Take your time. I know it is a lot to process all of a sudden, but I had to tell you someday. I didn't want you to live in a lie." I waited for different reactions. I got none.

I sighed. "Well, now let's get to the actual reason why you all are here." I said as I turned to face everyone. I reached out into my pocket and brought out the paper.

"What's that?" Ace questioned. I unfolded the paper and showed it to them. Carina shut her eyes and looked away immediately.

"What does it say?" She asked, still not looking our way.

"'Look Out Di Angelo. You messed with the wrong person.'" Ace read out loud.

"Where and when did you find this?" Romeo asked. "Today, when I was visiting Carter's grave. It just appeared out of nowhere when I was about to leave."

Immediately everyone, except Alex and Carina, started talking, which made it hard for me to keep up with everything. They all kept talking over each other.

Finally, Alex said something. "Okay guys, I realize this might not be the most appropriate time to tell you this, but I suppose I trust you guys enough." That caught my attention. I shushed everyone down.
