Daehyun hadn't come into the store for weeks.
I was beginning to think that he wasn't ever coming back, just before the Busan boy himself strutted into the store with a girl on his arm.
My hands clenched into fists as I watched them go through racks of bras together, probably trying to decide which one would look best on that bi- I mean, Daehyun's girlfriend.
When she giggled and pressed her lips against Daehyun's, my gaze hardened.
That did it.
I walked out from behind the counter and casually strolled over to where they were standing. "Excuse me!" I said, cringing at how cheerful I sounded. "Do you guys need any help?"
They both looked up. I swallowed nervously as Daehyun's gaze met mine.
He grit his teeth, growling. "No."
His girlfriend stared at him in utter shock before turning to me and placing her hand on my arm. "We do, actually." She smiled. "Excuse my friend. He gets pissy sometimes." The girl tilted her head in his direction and shot daggers at him.
I nodded, though a bit confused. Wait...friend? Didn't Daehyun mention something about his girlfriend?
Daehyun muttered something incoherent before turning away from both of us.
The supposed 'friend' of Daehyun focused on me, thrusting out a bra. "Do you have this one possibly in a bigger size?"
I glanced down, eyeing the sexy, lace piece of lingerie. Smiling coldly to myself, I mentally shouted profanities at the brunette, considering that this bra was already huge. She needed a bigger one than this?! Daehyun must like women with huge- I had to stop myself from growling or punching the girl. Or both.
"U-uh yeah." I stuttered. "Let me just run to the back really quick and get it for you."
She clasped her hands over her heart and sighed happily, "Ah, thank you so much!"
Making my way to the rear of the store, I spotted Daehyun looking through one of the racks. Wasn't he just-? Nevermind. All these girly fumes from the store must be causing me to hallucinate.
I detoured over to him, and tapped his shoulder, making him jump.
"Yah! What the hell do you- Oh, it's you." His eyes hardened as he studied my features. "Go bother someone else."
"How did you do that?" I questioned.
"Do what?" His eyebrow twitched in annoyance.
I rolled my eyes. "Get over here that fast, duh! You were just standing by your girlfriend!"
Daehyun grabbed the collar of my shirt and lifted me off the ground, his face just inches from mine. "Listen here, punk. I don't like being toyed with and lied to, understand?" He growled, and I nodded quickly as he continued. "My girlfriend and I broke up yesterday, so why in the hell would I want to be near that cheating bitch!" His voice was dripping with venom, and I thought that the way his grip tightened, I didn't think I would live to see another day.
Surprisingly, he regained his composure and set me down. I rubbed my aching neck as I dared to meet his eyes. "I'm serious, Daehyun, I just saw-" I slapped a hand over my mouth to keep from any more words from spilling out.
"Daehyun? How the fuck do you know my name?! Are you some sort of cop or something?" Daehyun's face was hard to read, but it looked full of anger? curiousity? fear?
"No, no I assure you I'm not a cop. I don't even like donuts!" I joked, not missing the ghost of a smile appear on his angelic face before returning to his usual snarl.
"Then how?" His patience was running thin.
"I, uh...Well..." I swallowed my pride, feeling my heart hammering against my chest as I reached in my pocket to reveal the small piece of technology.
Daehyun's eyes widened. "You stole my phone?"
I bit my lip and nodded.
"You, sir are a man of mysteries." He shook his head, his hair flopping into his eyes. I fought the urge of wanting to brush it away.
"You should explore me then." I whispered, my lips barely moving.
"What?"
"Euheh, nothing!"
"Alrighty then." Daehyun looked at me weirdly. "So about earlier, why did you say you saw me?"
"Well, I remembered your face." I said, then added quietly. "Which is pretty hard to forget." I felt my cheeks heat up. "I-i'm not indicating anything, uh, it's just that I have...an amazing memory! Yeah!"
I ignored his low chuckle as I continued. "So I saw you, well who I thought was you, with some girl, and I went over to see if you guys needed any help. Your look-alike was rude." I rolled my eyes. "Gee, I wonder if you're brothers." Daehyun snorted. "Anyways, your 'girlfriend' said yes and asked me to find something for her, and here we are now!"
He thought a moment before speaking. "That's quite odd. Do you think you could show me where they are?"
A chance to spend more time with him? Hell yeah! "Of course. Follow me!"
I led him through racks and racks of clothes before stopping and ducking behind a display of yoga pants. Latching my hand onto his wrist, I pulled him down to crouch beside me. I poked my head out and motioned for him to do the same.
"There!" I whispered, jerking my head towards a couple talking next to the fitting rooms.
Daehyun studied them for a few seconds and paled. "That man does look awfully like me."
I silently cheered in my brain. "I told you so!"
He glared at me. "Just because he looks like me, doesn't mean he sounds like me, smartass."
Just then, the couple's conversation grew heated as they began to shout at one another.
"You can wait five more minutes! He'll be back, I'm sure of it, Jung Daehyun!"
"The last time you asked for help, you almost got raped! So excuse me, Hana, for trying to be a good friend."
A light tap on my shoulder made me focused my attention to the Jung Daehyun that was next to me.
I smirked. "So, do you believe me now?"
Expecting a snide remark from the boy, I crossed my arms and closed my eyes, prepared for his response.
"This isn't a laughing matter, Youngjae."
"Told ya s-" My eyes shot open. "Wait, what? Now it's my turn to ask, how do you know my name?"
"I'll explain later." Daehyun was pale and looked visibly shaken. "Right now, we need to get out of here without causing a scene."
"You mean leave?"
Daehyun rolled his eyes. "Yes leave. As in, leave now."
"But what about Himchan? I'm on the clock right now you know!" Everything was frazzled to me. I couldn't think straight at all.
"I told you, I'd explain later!" He gave me a little shove. "Now move!"
We crawled stealthily from rack to rack without being noticed, until the very last one.
I figured since it was the last rack we had to get by, I could practice my ninja skills by doing a somersault. Unfortunately, I haven't quite mastered that yet, so my roll resulted in my legs hitting the side of the rack. A bunch of clothes tumbled to the floor, their hanger making screeching noises as they were ripped from the bar.
I heard Daehyun sigh behind me before grabbing and throwing me over his broad shoulder.
My legs and feet were aching, so I was grateful that he would be nice enough to carry me to our next destination, which was unknown to me.
"Daehyun?" I whispered against his lean back as he ran out of the store and down the large hallways.
"Yes?" He panted, not slowing his pace.
"If that's not you, and that's not your twin, what exactly is that thing, or person, or whatever?"
Daehyun quivered slightly. "A Matoki."
"Aaand so exactly why was this...Matoki...thing in the store in the first place?" I questioned curiously.
He didn't respond.
"Daehyun." I urged. "Please tell me!"
The addressed swallowed thickly before uttering his next words.
"To kill you."
