Chapter 15: Beside You

"I'm surprising you again." I read the text Luke sent me.

It's been a few days ever since Luke and I made up and I couldn't be happier. It really was like he's the missing part of me I need to be completed. But with the knowledge of him being back in my life, I felt like I was on cloud nine.

"Well if you tell me, it's not a surprise." I typed quickly into my phone.
"Damn it." He replied.
"Lol fine where am I going?"
"The beach."
"There's like a million beaches in LA, you know that, right?"
"The one by your house."
"Ok, be there in half an hour."
"Perfect xx,"
"just like you." he added, putting a smile on my face.

I pulled up to the beach just in time to see the beautiful orange sunset, slowly slipping behind the calm ocean. There were no people in the sand or in the water, Luke and I would be the only ones to witness this beautiful sight.

I stepped out of my car, and immediately my eyes shifted to see a distant fire burning, next to a tall silhouette sitting on a nearby log.

I walked over there to see that in fact, it was Luke sitting in a bed of pebbles, with an acoustic guitar resting on his lap.

Once I stepped foot on the bed of pebbles, my sandals made a noise that caused Luke to turn around to look at me. He smiled at the sight of me, and I smiled back at the sight of his cute face in the reflection of the sunset.

"This is so cute, Luke!" I said, still smiling.
"See, I can be romantic."
"I love it."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"Come sit." he beckoned me towards him, and motioned for me to sit down next to him, and I did.

"Oh my god, the sunset is so pretty, isn't it?" I pointed out in awe.
"Eh. It's okay I guess." he smiled.
"Its okay?"
"Well, compared to you it's nothing."

I blushed and realized how much I loved him. I loved him more than anything.
"Okay, well I'll to get the point of why I brought you here... and took the tiresome effort to set
up all this... I wrote a song about you."
"Do you think you're Taylor Swift or something?" I said sarcastically, and he shot me a sarcastic look.
"What's wrong with Taylor Swift?" he laughed.
"Nothing." I shot him a smile.
"Luke, I'm just kidding. I'm flattered."
He smiled and said sarcastically, "You should be. Its a pretty damn good song."
"I bet. Now shut up, and play it, idiot!" he laughed when I said this,
"Idiot?" he smiled and giggled.
"But you're my idiot. My cute little idiot."
"Agreed. Ok I'm going to play it now. It's about me leaving and getting upset while I was away, meanwhile still missing you."

He positioned his fingers onto the correct guitar strings, getting ready to play the song.
"By the way, it's called Beside You." he included, then he started strumming the strings of the guitar softy. After a few seconds of the beautiful guitar sound strumming, his heavenly voice started to sing.

"Within a minute I was all packed up
I've got a ticket to another world
I don't wanna go
I don't wanna go
The silent words are hard to speak
When your thoughts are all I see
"Don't ever leave," she said to me" he sang.

At the sound of the lyrics, I flashback to the airport when I told Luke I never wanted him to leave. But now he was here, in front of me, and that's all that mattered, and all I needed.

"When we both fall asleep underneath the same sky.
To the beat of our hearts at the same time.
So close but so far away," he continued.

"She sleeps alone.
My heart wants to come home.
I wish I was, I wish I was beside you.
She lies awake.
I'm trying to find the words to say.
I wish I was, I wish I was beside you." he sang the chorus flawlessly.

Tears piled up in my heartfelt eyes. I could relate to the lyrics perfectly. I recall I felt the exact same way about him, craving him to be with me.

"Another day and I'm somewhere new.
I made a promise that I'll come home soon.
Bring me back, bring me back to you."

"When we both wake up underneath the same sun.
Time stops, I wish that I could rewind.
So close but so far away." he looked up at me and gave me a cute smile while singing.

As he repeated the chorus, I suddenly understood how he felt thinking that I had moved on. Then, I mentally put myself in his position, thinking of loosing me. I then understood why he was so upset. I'm just glad I was lucky enough to get a second chance.

" There are pieces of us both
Under every city light
And they're shining as we fade into the night,"

"She sleeps alone.
My heart wants to come home.
I wish I was, I wish I was..." he melted his lyrics together perfectly, this song was reminding me of how much I needed and loved Luke.

After he repeated the chorus one last time, he slipped into the last verses.

"She lies awake.
Beside you.
I wish I was, I wish I was..."

"She sleeps alone.
My heart wants to come home.
I wish I was, I wish I was..."

All I could hear after that was the soft wind blowing and the faint waves crashing in the distance. Once Luke played the last strum, he looked up at me with a big smile. Tears of joy piled up in my eyes, I was in awe of the beauty of the song.

"Does it suck that badly?" he giggled sarcasticly.
"NO NO NOT AT ALL. Luke, I love it so much. It means the world to me."
"Good, I'm glad. It took a lot of work"
"It paid off."

I leaned in to kiss him, his cold lips pushed up against mine. The ocean breeze tickled my skin, as I intertwined my hand into his. The feeling of his lips on mine made me feel like everything was finally right and perfect. Whenever I kissed him, the world seemed to fade away.

Once he finally pulled away, he set his guitar aside and put out the fire. The only source of light was then the flawless sunset. He grabbed my hand, and we started to walk across the beach together.

Everything was perfect again.
