I was pretty nervous to start dating Jake. I didn't tell my parents because even though they knew him well, I didn't want to get their hopes up about me having a boyfriend. Who knew how long it would last?
I got on the bus and slid down into the normal bus seat I sat in. It wasn't my assigned seat or anything, it just was the seat I had decided to just sit in. It was one that was always open. I hated sitting with other people. I really did. I also hated sitting up in the front of the bus, and I hated sitting in the back. That was why I always enjoyed sitting middleways back. My seat was across from the side emergency exit. I slid my headphones in, turned on my music and canceled out all other noise. I liked it that way.
I entered the school that morning, scanning the cafeteria for Jake. I spotted him all the way across the other side of the room. He was standing in his usual spot around one of the round tables. The table where I had lunch with Logan every day.
I approached him and he smiled. It was a soft smile. I turned my head, flushing. I was still getting use to the fact that he wasn't just my best friend any more, but my boyfriend.
"Hey." I muttered.
"Hey." He smiled more as he saw me flush.
"How are you?" I asked.
"Good. Very good." Jake said.
"Glad to see you in a good mood finally." I commented.
We stood there talking until it was time to go to first period. We didn't have a home room in high school. My first period was English. One of my favorite classes.
It was one of the classes that I truly enjoyed. And I was pretty good at it too.
The rest of the week went pretty much the same. It was good. Jake joined me at the table with Logan . Jake and I took things very slow. No touching or anything. Just talking. He didn't seem to mind. He knew this was my first relationship.
And then Thursday night came. I got a text from one of my friends - Daisy - which read:
Hey Jake and I have been talking and we have feelings for each other. He wants to go out with me.
And with that, things started to come crashing down. She had to be kidding, right? I tried to text Jake but got no answer. Maybe he is in bed. I thought to myself and tried not to worry too much.
Friday came and things got worse. I tried to talk to Jake but he seemed to be avoiding me. I sighed and forced myself to get through the day, my stomach churning into a knot with worry.
Last period of the day. Choir. I waited outside ths band door for Jake after class. Daisy appeared beside me.
"Why are you waiting here?" She asked. Was that a sneer in her tone.
Jake was one of the last ones out. He and Daisy walked off together.
Later on that night I got a single text from Jake.
I'm sorry but I am breaking up with you. I like Daisy.
I'm sorry? Sorry for what? Using me? I took deep breaths, curling into a ball. I felt so used.
