𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐰 𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐬. That was an understatement. She was terrified. If just one soldier woke up, it could end insanely bad for her and the others.
Inej and the braided brunette walked through the camp as silently as they could.
Inej looked at the brunette with a calm and collected look on her face. She had done this countless times before. Only slightly different.
Meadow on the other hand, had never ever done anything like this. She was skilled in combat but she wasn't one to kill. She had never killed anyone.
Maybe, when the battle was going to start. Then maybe she'd claim her first kill. But she tried very desperately to try and not think about that.
The brown wood of the horse stables came closer as the two petite females walked through the camp together. Normally Meadow would have worried about how muddy her shoes were going to be. But now that was the last thing on her mind.
As the pair reached the stables Inej started to pull open the large wooden doors. The door creaked loudly and the first thing Meadow did was turn around and see if anyone had come and see what was going on. Luckily it was empty.
The two slowly walked in. And lined up there were many tall and gorgeous horses. Meadow slowly walked through the stables, looking very interested at the fascinating animals.
As she walked through she found out that the stables had two entrances. One that was facing the camp and another one that was facing the woods. This came in very handy because if they would use the one that was facing the woods, no one could see the horses fleeing.
Inej and Meadow looked at each other and immediately knew each other's thoughts. Meadow was going to free the horses on the left, and Inej would take the right.
And so the pair started working. First Inej opened the door that was facing the woods and then they started opening up the doors.
Meadow began at the back and opened the first door to free the first horse. As the opened the door the large but gorgeous animal looked at her. Only to escape and run into the woods two seconds later. Almost like it knew she was there to free them.
Meadow continued like that. After freeing each horse she felt a good feeling in her chest. Knowing she was doing something right. The horses were probably treated like complete trash here. And it felt good to free them of that misery.
One of the last horses she had to free was a tall and elegant black horse. It's dark and long manes made it look even more breathtaking. Meadow didn't understand why but she immediately felt connected to the beautiful animal. And so she decided to take that one to battle with her.
It sounded strange. Why take the one that you like the most into a battle with you? But Meadow couldn't help herself. She felt like she had to.
As all the other horses had been freed on her side she turned to look at Inej. Who was already busy saddling up a short but still very pretty white horse.
"Have you already made your pick?" Meadow asked with a smile while leaning on the door of the stable the horse was in.
Inej smiled slightly and looked at the brunette for a second before turning back around. "I chose this one, it made me feel safe. And i also picked one for Jesper."
Inej pointed at a brown middle sized horse that was already saddled up and ready to leave.
Meadow smiled. The animals were all so pretty and fascinating to see. At the farm with grandma they didn't have horses. Grandmother always said horses were supposed to be in the wild. Not in a stable.
While smiling Meadow made her way back to the tall and black horse. She took the saddle and slowly put it one the animal. It reacted for a second but calmed down after that.
While she was saddling up the horse she couldn't help but notice a star on the horses neck. It was a small but still very noticeable golden star.
Meadow thought it was ink so she spit on her hand and tried to rub it off. But it wouldn't come off. "What is this thing?" She mumbled to herself. But the horse neighed back to her loudly, almost as it understood her.
Meadow decided to just forget about it and she started to mount the horse. That was quite the challenge as she was not very tall while the horse was extremely tall.
But as she got on she saw Inej also sitting on her horse. Both of them started to let the horses walk to the exit of the stables.
"You just couldn't help but choose the prettiest one could you?" Inej asked looking at Meadow who was on the tall black horse.
Meadow laughed silently. "Every horse it pretty in it's own way. I just couldn't resist this one. It looks so elegant." And she looked down at the beautiful horse she was seated on.
The three horses and the two females made their way back to where Jesper and Kaz were on the lookout.
Luckily there had been no one who had even seen or heard them.
And because of that the small mission with the horses had gone so successfully, there was still time to go for the big mission right now. Get to Fjodor Ivanov.
But before she could even start to worry about that, Jesper's squeal pulled her out of her thoughts. "No way! That's my horse?" He sounded very exited and he made his way to the brown horse.
Kaz shook his head slightly. "It is not your horse. After we've gotten rid of Fjodor Ivanov we will free these as well."
Meadow smiled slightly at that. Even though Kaz Brekker pretended to be this heartless businessman she knew deep down inside he was not.
Inej tilted her head at Kaz while seated on the white horse. "So that's the plan? Get to Ivanov right now?"
Kaz nodded, his face void of emotion. "That's the plan. To catch that maniac."
