𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴, 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗼𝘄. Everything was dull and for her it seemed like life was an empty void. A giant void filled with all the darkness.
And that void had consumed her whole. Slowly eating away her sanity from the inside out.
It had been an entire year, precisely today, since she had returned home from the traumatic experience. It had been an entire year since she had read her grandmother's letter, and burned it only minutes later.
Life was hard. Meadow knew that from the beginning. But she did not expect it to be like this. She did not think it would be this ruthless and cruel towards her.
Meadow had lost all the will and courage to make something out of her life. It had came to such a low point that even praying to the saints wasn't of use anymore.
She had lost herself, her personality, her feelings. She was now an empty version of what she used to be.
And Inej knew that. When Meadow ran away in Fjodor's camp, she knew that something terrible was wrong.
So Inej tried to reach out, with so many letters. But she got no response back. Then she waited a few months but then started to miss Meadow even more.
Sure, they had been friends for only a short period of time but she grew to care about the brunette very fast.
Eventually, Inej ran out if patience. So she went to see the one place she was sure Meadow would be. Inej went to visit the farm. Meadow had told her where it was so Inej didn't take long to get there.
The first thing Inej witnessed was how different Meadow looked.
Her face looked stoic. Her hair was no longer in it's braids and her body had lost most of it's muscle.
It was all clear to Inej. Meadow had been distancing herself from everyone. Probably to finally get some peace.
Little did Inej know, Meadow's mind had anything but peace. Meadow expected it to get better while being away from everyone and everything for a while. But it only got worse.
Her thoughts only got darker, her personality ebbed away even deeper and her will to be alive got smaller. Yet she kept going on, no matter what.
Only not for herself. If it had been up to her, her last day on earth had been months ago already.
But quitting was not an option. Never will be. That had been told to the brunette ever since she could remember. So she kept on going. Like she did. Like how grandmother did.
Inej didn't let her presence get known to Meadow. She figured that if Meadow wanted to reach back to her, she would've written a response.
And that's why, after a few hours of just observing, Inej left Meadow alone again. And started to make her way back to Ketterdam, in the pouring rain.
Back in Ketterdam, Kaz had been left with a challenge. He had to find a way to get to the other side of the fold. Which was quite a challenge.
So when Inej came back, the first thing he said was;
"We need Meadow back."
Yeah.... Last time I updated this was an entire month ago. Sorry for that. But hey, I'm back, I hope. It's a short chapter but hopefully I'll be able to update more<3
