Jenny

As soon as we start to run, I begin to have second thoughts. I really should have thought this through. I mean, seriously. We’re just running through the forest recklessly, with no defense at all. People can just hurt and capture us now.

And a few seconds later, my prediction comes true.

“Whatever you do, do not open those cookies and read the fortune!” I warn May. This was the Fortune Cookie Assault that Rita told us about, and if you read a fortune, apparently, it’ll come true. And all of the fortunes are bad.

After about three hundred cookies were thrown, they finally stop (fortunately, since I’m tired from dodging them).

“Finally!” I yell with a sigh of relief, “Now we can-Ugh!” I groan as I fall flat on my stomach (thankfully, my face isn’t crushed). When I look at what I tripped on, I see a broken fortune cookie.

“Stupid cookie,” I mumble under my breath. Being stopped by a cookie is one of the most embarrassing things ever. Especially since I can dodge spears and swords, but not jump over a cookie.

“Here, I’ll help you up. Besides, we’re almost at the creek!” May reminds me. She pulls me up and helps me get back on my feet.

We walk the rest of the way, and when we arrive, I stop, immediately spotting Rita.

“Rita!” May screams in horror, as we look at her. A short and cubby, white and black figure is looming over her. Wait…is that…Slender Man?! No wait…he’s supposed to be slender, and slender he is not.

As Rita takes out her spear and stabs him on the arm, her spear goes through his arm and his whole body flickers. Wait…flickers?! I realize what it is – a hologram. An image that isn’t real. To test my theory, I shoot an arrow that should pierce his heart, but instead, it goes through him and hits a clear wall. I’m right.

Instantly, the fat Slender Man looks towards me. Don’t be scared, Jenny. It's just a hologram, I reassure myself.

And then he speaks. “I have a warning for you!” he begins giddily, as if he's happy, “Any more snooping around to find the Evolution of Darkness will lead to the disappearance of two of your dearest friends. Remember – You have been warned, and this is your only warning! Have a nice day!” He turns to someone behind us and says in his cheery voice, “Jessie Tu, aren’t you? As you may see, I did not enjoy Bitstrips as much as you.” Then, he flickers once more, and is gone, taking the wall with him.

May and I instantly rush over to help Rita. She grimaces in pain as she tries to sit up, facing us. Her hand is clutching her shoulder. “What on earth happened?!” I ask in bewilderment.

“That wall happened, that’s what,” Rita replies, “I crashed into it when I was about to cross the border and crashed into Jessie.”

Before we can reply, we hear a familiar voice.

            “Well.... That certainly was unexpected.”

We turn around to see Chiron galloping towards us, holding a bull horn.

“Cover your ears!” he warns us and we quickly cup our hands over our ears, just as he turns around and squeezes it to signal the end of the game. He motions towards someone behind us – Jessie.
