Jenny

You know when you're awake but you haven't got up yet and you're still in bed? That's what's happening for me, now.

I slowly open my eyes, clutching to the covers on my bed expecting the bright rays of sunshine to burn my eyes (as it does every morning), but none comes. I grab my white, shiny Coach watch and glance at the small hands. 7:02. Looks like my mental alarm clock woke me up this morning.

Since I have about forty-five minutes until the others wake up, I quickly and quietly grab my black backpack hanging on the back of the door, begin my packing and start to change clothes. After stuffing four sets of clothes, two Cokes, a small bag of hair ties, my “notebook”, a canteen of nectar and a plastic baggie of ambrosia (both filled to the rim), I walk into the washroom and start to change out of my pajamas.

Silently, I put my orange camp tee, dark blue capris and my black Converse (high-tops) on. I slip on my watch on my right wrist (it's currently 7:21am) and quietly sneak out the door, leaving my backpack behind to go tell Rita, May and Jess.

Waking them up without waking up their siblings too, is actually harder than I thought. It's like stepping onto land filled with landmines – if you're not careful, they'll explode (or in this case, they'll wake up, but some of them might actually explode with anger).

After waking May and Jess and telling them to meet by the fire pit in the middle of the cabins, I begin to walk towards the Ares cabin, which is across from the Athena cabin.

I stop in front of the large, poorly-painted red cabin with barbed wires on the roof and slowly turn the knob on the door. Quietly, I push it open and scan the room for Rita's figure. Luckily, her bed was right next to the door.

Before I can move one step, a voice behind me grumbles, “Identify yourself.”

I jump back a bit in surprise, hearing Clarisse's voice. Is she dreaming or did she really hear me?

Just in case, I disguise my voice as one of her half-brothers named Mark. “Go back to sleep, Clarisse. It's just me – Mark.” Good thing I loved to mimic people's voices.

“Ehh? ‘Go back to sleep’ yourself, Mark....” she mumbles with a yawn as she goes back to sleep, and I sigh with relief.

I walk to the side of Rita's bed and poke her. “Rita... Rita...” I whisper.

“Hmmm? Who's that?” she answers quietly, rubbing her eyes.

“It's me, Jenny. There's something I need to tell you, so pack a backpack or something and get dressed, then meet us at the fire pit outside. Don't bring your backpack though.”

“Who’s 'we'?” she mumbles, but agrees.

I slip through the door and exit, making my way towards the fire pit where May is already sitting.

I look at the time and it's only 7:29.

As I lift my head and sit on a log, I see Jessie starting to come over.

When everybody's here, I tell them about my encounter with Alec the night before, and how we should follow the Shadowhunters.
