Halston's POV
It's been several weeks since I've seen Jaden. After we went to visit his family, I went back home and he returned to LA. I had been hiding in my room for most of the time, only posting once in a while on my snap. My Insta, Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok was all inactive for the time being.
He called me everyday. Even when I didn't want to talk to anyone or when I'd decline his calls, he kept calling. He never gave up on me. He was the one who prompted me to see a Psychiatrist because my grieving was turning into something more, something unhealthy. I couldn't sleep through the night, I had heightened reactions to certain things, I would avoid anything that reminded me of my dad because it would send me into a flashback, and so on.
Four and a half weeks ago, I was diagnosed with PTSD. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Because of the severity of my PTSD, the Psychiatrist started putting me on medications right away. We tried different ones, but the SSRI Prozac worked the best for me. SSRIs help modulate serotonin and other chemicals in the brain linked to anxiety disorders, mood swings, and in my case: PTSD.
Jaden has been with me every step of the way, doing research and talking the Psychiatrist on how best to help me for when I move back to LA permanently. I kind of feel bad in a way sometimes, I mean, he's only 20. This is a lot to deal with for a 20 year old, at that age most people would want to be free and go enjoy their youth, not be stuck on the phone with their mentally ill girlfriend. I give him an out almost everyday.
I say, "You know you can leave me right? I won't be offended or anything."
He just grunts and says, "whatever."
Then I say, "okay, but just let me know if this ever gets too much for you."
Then he'll say, "Hals, I love you. This isn't to much for me. And I'm not gonna leave you. End of story."
As the medication started working, and I started feeling a bit more like myself, I made the decision that I needed to move back to LA. I told Quinton to come pick me up from the airport because I wanted to surprise Jaden.
He had released THINK ABOUT ME two days ago and I tried to get a flight in time to celebrate the release of the single but all the flights were booked. The only available seat was for today at noon. So, today at noon I boarded a flight back to LA.
"So how's Jaden been? Honestly," I asked Quinton. He had picked me up and we were driving from the airport to Jaden's place.
"Honestly?" he thought about it for a second, "busy. I mean, his album's coming out pretty soon and when he's not on the phone with you, he's in the studio perfecting every song. You know Jaden, always throwing himself into his work."
"Yeah," I sighed. I still hadn't shared my PTSD diagnosis with anyone so I wasn't surprised to hear Quinton say 'when he's not on the phone with you' with a little attitude. Jaden has told me that so many of his friends think it's unhealthy how much he's on the phone with me and how I haven't gotten over my father's death yet. But they don't know.
We arrived at Jaden's house a short time later and Quinton and I got out of the car. I had a key to his place of course so I just unlocked the door and walked in. Quinton, who graciously offered to carry my bags, followed in right behind me, and once he set the bags down, he took his phone out to record per my request.
I heard voices coming from the kitchen, so that's where I went.
"I just don't understand why like people don't like Griffin, I mean he's like on of the best players in the league," I heard Bryce's voice.
"No honestly," that was Jaden, "I mean-"
"Eh, Griffin's overrated, Tucker is way better," I said, entering the kitchen.
"Holy shit," Bryce jumped, startled, and put his hand over his chest.
Jaden turned to look at me and a look of pure shock and surprise came on his face. He put a fist over his mouth.
"No way," he said, shaking his head. "No way, no way, no way."
"Hi baby," I smiled.
"Hals," he ran to me and pulled me into a tight hug. His one hand was pressed to the back of my head and his other hand was wound tightly around my waist. "I missed you so much baby."
"I missed you too," I murmured into his shoulder, both of my arms were wrapped around his neck.
He picked me up and spun me around.
Jaden's POV
Halston and I tried to watch a movie, but she fell asleep pretty early on. The medication that she's on makes her drowsy, so I just let her lay on me and rest. To be honest, I was just happy to be able to hold her again. I missed her so much.
I fell asleep some time later and woke up without Halston next to me. She was standing across the room and pacing back and forth while looking at her phone.
"Hey baby, what's wrong?" I asked her, rubbing my eyes.
"I think I'm ready to tell everyone about my PTSD," she said slowly, watching me for a reaction. "What do you think?"
"It doesn't matter what I think," I said, "you do what you want to do and know that I'll support you no matter what."
She looked away and chewed her thumb nail. I stood up and walked over to her, placing my hands at her hips.
"You. Are one of the strongest people I know Hals. Just know that whatever you decide, there's an army of people out there waiting and ready to support you."
She nodded and said, "Would you be there with me if I made a video? You don't have to say anything, but just you being there and holding my hand would make all the difference."
"Of course I will."
She thought about it for one more second and then said, "Okay, well, I think I'm gonna do it Jaden."
I smiled and pressed a kiss to her lips, "you got this baby."
She smiled back.
I helped her set up the ring light and the camera. Then, when she was ready, I pressed record and went to sit down next to her.
She laced her fingers through mine, took a deep breath, and said, "hey guys, I know a lot of you have been worried about me and wondered where I've been, so here I am to explain exactly what's been going on."
I sat in silence as I watched my baby girl do something that was incredibly hard and incredibly unfair because of her job. I watched her tell the world her diagnosis. And the whole time the only thing I could think was:
That's my girl.
