Halston's POV
A couple days later at around 3:45, I heard knocking at my door, and I reluctantly rolled out of bed, careful not to wake Jaden (who had slept over that night). When I got to the door, I looked through the peep hole and there stood Nessa.
No way, I shook my head, a scowl on my face. I opened the door and she looked at me. Her eyes were bright red.
"C-Can I come in?" she practically whispered. Giving her a weary expression, I said, "you do know that it is almost four in the morning, right?"
"I had no where else to go Halston," she whimpered. "I needed someone I can trust."
"Can't say those feelings are reciprocated," I looked her up and down.
"Oh god, you're mad at me too, aren't you?" she sighed. I just stayed silent. "Look, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about what happened between me and Chase. I was just so... ashamed."
"Don't you think I was ashamed when I found out that Jaden and Mads broke up because of me? Heck yeah, but still, you were the first person I told because I trusted you," I ran my fingers through my hair.
"I know," she looked down at her Converse. Sighing, I stepped aside and let her in. She sat down at the kitchen table and I made us both some coffee.
"Here, I made homemade Cinnamon rolls yesterday, try one," I handed her a napkin and placed a roll on it.
"I'm not hungry," she mumbled.
"Ness, eat it," I rolled my eyes and grabbed one for myself, sitting down across from her. She reluctantly took a bite, and then another, and then another.
"Wow, I forgot how good you were at baking," she wolfed the whole Cinnamon roll down in seconds.
"Thanks," I took a sip of my coffee.
"So," she leaned back against her chair. "I owe you an explination, and an apology for what Chase said."
"That's not your apology to give," I shrugged.
"Yeah, but this never would have happened if him and I didn't..." fresh tears sprang to her eyes. "I'm sorry Halston, I should have told you."
"Yeah, it was pretty rough to find out from Twitter," I leaned back in my chair too. "You hurt a lot of people Nessa."
"I know," she said quietly. "I was trying to find the best way to address the situation. I'm gonna address it in a few days."
"Yeah, but are you gonna tell the truth?"
"I don't think it's anyone's business that I slept with Chase," she said.
"Mmm, but it is Josh's and Charli's. They had to find out the hard way, that's not cool," I said to her.
"I know Halston!"
"Don't yell at me Nessa," I warned her. "We've known each other way to long for that."
"I'm trying, Hals, I'm trying so hard to make this right. I've talked to Charli, I've talked to Josh. I unfollowed Chase. I don't know what else I can do," she looked down at her hands.
I let her words hang in the air for a second before saying, "you keep living your life and eventually this will all go away. You, Janessa Barrett, go to the studio and let your emotions out there. Focus on your music. Better yourself. Learn from your mistakes."
She nodded, "yeah, okay. I'll do that."
After a while she said, "you should see my Dms. I've got death threats from D'amelio fans and so much hate from literally everyone."
"Well, thanks to Lil Huddy, I've gotten that too. I've even got people going so far as to call me and Jaden, leaving threatening voicemails," I felt myself getting teary eyed. "Today I went out to get some fruit because I wanted to make Smoothie Bowls for me and Jaden... and some idiots started shouting the N word at me and cursing at me. It was so bad that I never got the fruit, I just ran back to my car, crying."
"God, I'm so sorry Hals, I never meant for any of this to happen," Nessa shook her head. "Could you ever forgive me?"
"Yes, and I already have," I told her, reaching across the table for her hand. "Is it a little hard to trust you know? Yes. Do I have you? By all means, no! You are still the same girl I got lost at Santa Monica Pier with, and passed out of the Kingda Ka ride when we took our trip to New Jersey, and still the girl who introduced me to Acai bowls."
We were both laughing by this point.
"The point is, with some time, I think we can fix our friendship," I told her. "But you gotta give it time."
"Yeah," she brushed her tears away with the back of her hand. "Oliva told me not to come here... she said you hated me."
"Oh yeah? Well Olivia can suck it," I rolled my eyes. "I tolerated her because she was Kio's girlfriend and your friend, but remember when I told you something felt off with her? I was right."
Nessa just looked guilty.
"Oh c'mon Nessa, Kio is the sweetest person on earth and she did not deserve him. Tell me I'm wrong?"
"Yeah, you're kinda right," she sighed.
"I said it from the start, something was off," I sighed too, "I just wish Kio didn't have to get hurt in the process.
"Yeah," Nessa agreed.
"I'm sure she's a nice person, Nessa, but I'm just saying that what she didn't wasn't right," I sighed.
"Agreed."
We both looked up and a groggy, shirtless, Jaden waddled into the kitchen.
"You really don't know how to whisper," he let out a tired laugh, his eyes travelled to Nessa and he just stared.
"Be nice Jaden," I told him.
"Nessa," he said in acknowledgement and opened the fridge, grabbing a Cinnamon roll.
"Hi Jaden," she said quietly.
"Well, I'm just gonna take this to bed," he mumbled and walked back to the bedroom.
"Don't get crumbs on my bed!" I called after him, he just grunted in response.
"So," I looked at Nessa.
"So," she said. "I'm, uh, gonna be in the studio all this week if you wanna stop by."
"I'll think about it," I smiled.
"Okay," she smiled back.
