"Mistress, your daughter is alive," Rei said.

"What do you mean?" she asked shocked. Rei sat down next to her and told her everything. From the beginning of her husband's murder till them being hunted down by snipers.

"How...terrible. My mother did all that?" she asked.

"Yes. Right now she is being held in the main house basement." Rei said. Sophia was furious and happy at the same time. Her mother lied to her and killed her husband. Darlene was still the highest rank of the Carow head family and something had to be done about it.

Jaxon and Maya sat in Maya's room. Violet and Max were supposed to show up and do homework together but they were running late.

"This sucks." Maya said.

"I'm sorry. I'll leave if you want me to." Jaxon said.

"Don't apologize and stay. I could use a smart person now. I'll get them back one day." she said. Jaxon admired how beautiful she looked as she focused on her homework. It was such a strange feeling for him. His heart felt warm and he mostly felt embarrassed about it. She didn't have that astonishing beauty the other girls had but she had a soft beauty on her.

"Want some?" Maya asked reaching out the box with sweets she had. She had a love for baking and overdid it. So now she had too many sweets. He took a truffle and popped it in his mouth. It was satisfying and delicious. He's never had truffles before.

"Why do you look so shocked. You never had truffles before?" she asked. He nodded.

"I've lived most of my life 'under a rock' like you all would say, so I haven't tried a lot of things," he said.

"Ah, okay. Well, have as many as you'd like," she said. She watched as he tried different treats. She's never met someone like him. He was a strange person.

"So how long have you known Violet?" she asked.

"Not long," he said.

"What do you think of her... Hair?" she asked.

"What about it?" he asked. She smiled. She respected him for that answer. Most people hated her because of her hair and ever since she came back from the Carow estate she stopped dying her hair. A couple of girls have bullied her about it again but Violet wasn't paying too much attention to them. Jaxon looked around. He has never been in a girl's room before. There were k-pop band posters on the wall with girl basketball players too. There was a single bed with blue bed sheets. The table they sat at had a lot of pictures of her family. They were a family of five. She had an older brother and a little sister. Jaxon noticed the little girl peeking through the door at them a long time ago. She's been there for half an hour. Her older brother then opened the door. He wanted to see what boy his sister was with alone in her room.

"Who are you?" he asked. Jaxon stood up and was the taller one.

"Jaxon Ca-" Jaxon said but before he could continue the boy backed up and exited the room.

"Don't poop your pants!" Maya shouted at him.

"Did I do something wrong?" Jaxon asked.

"No, he acted all tough and stuff but got a fright when he saw you. What a wimp," she said. Jaxon felt disappointed in himself again. It was his looks again. They scared people off so easily. Maya fiddled around and searched for her textbook. Jaxon stood in front of her mirror and tried to push his lips up in a smile. She turned around and walked up next to him.

"What are you doing?" she asked tilting her head to the side.

"Smiling," he said. She chuckled and smiled brightly.

"Like this," she said. His heart warmed up at her comforting smile. This wasn't the feeling he felt when he was with Violet. He tried smiling but only managed to get a small smile.

"You'll get there. It doesn't work if you don't mean it," she said.

"How do I mean it?" he asked.

"By being happy, sheesh. You don't know much, do you?" she asked and smiled. He admired her as she continued to search for her textbook. She spotted it on the top shelf.

"That idiot probably put it there," she said referring to her brother. She climbed the shelves to get to it.

"That's dangerous," he said walking over to her. As she grabbed the book the shelf started to fall. Jaxon quickly grabbed her and turned to use his wings as protection but forgot they weren't there. The shelf fell against him and books went flying. He let out a painful groan.

"Oh my goodness. Are you okay?" she asked.

"Been through worse," he said letting her go and pushing the shelf back. Only a couple of books hit her and she was okay.

"Your arm," she said. His arm was cut and bleeding. He licked it but the blood kept coming out.

"Stop licking it. I'll go get a band-aid," she said. He started to place the books back and cleaning up.

"What happened?" he heard her brother ask her. He continued to pick up the books because it was none of his business.

"Nothing," she said and entered her room. She placed the band-aid on his cut and gave him a thumbs up.

"Sorry about all that. I shouldn't have climbed a bookshelf," she said.

"It's fine. I'm glad you are okay," he said.

"Sorry, we're late!" Violet said entering the room.

"You better be!" Maya said.

"Woah, what happened here?" Max asked.

"Long story, anyway, come and help us so we can start with the homework," Maya said. They nodded and started to help pick up the books.

I really wanted to put something in the media of my chapters but didn't know what. So I tried to create small covers for the chapters. I'm taking them as they come so some already have covers. It should be up to chapter 10 already
