14: Out Loud (Stucky One-Shot)

Steve stands across the counter from his childhood best friend and secret lover. Bucky stares Steve down. They'd been fighting for days, and at this point, they can't even remember why. They had pretty much been making stuff up to be mad about.

"You fight like an old married couple," Natasha had said a couple days ago. This had made Steve fiddle with the wedding ring he wore on a chain under his shirt. One that matched the one Bucky had under his shirt.

They had wanted to tell the team, they just weren't sure what they'd say. Their wedding had been a little last minute. No one was there except Stephen, who had found out and insisted on being there, but swore he wouldn't tell anyone.

But aside from the wedding, no one had even known they were engaged or had been seeing each other and sleeping together for months after they got Bucky back. They just didn't know how the team would react to finding out they were gay. There were so many uncertainties, Steve and Bucky were content keeping it a secret for now.

"You're not even listening," Bucky says. The voice of his husband brings Steve back to the present.

"I'm sorry, Buck. I am, really. I don't know what you want me to say."

"How about, 'I love you'? And not just to me, in the secret of your room, but in front of everybody. I know you're nervous, but I've waited long enough, Steve," Bucky says barely above a whisper, tears stinging his eyes. Steve sighs, bringing up a hand to rub the bridge of his nose.

"No, you're right. And I do love you Buck, you know I do. We should tell them. Tonight." Bucky gives his husband a warm smile. Steve rounds the counter and gives Bucky a kiss on the cheek and leaves the room. Bucky remains at the counter for a few more minutes, smiling at this resolve.

"What are you smiling at?" Tony asks, walking into the kitchen. "You got go-go juice in that coffee?" Bucky clears his face of emotion.

"Shove off, Stark," Bucky says, pushing away from the counter and going up to his room.

"FRIDAY, gather the team in here please," Steve says nervously. He's perched on the edge of the coffee table, running his ring over and over in his large hands.

"Yes, Mr. Rogers," the AI responds. In a matter of minutes, the eight other people currently staying at the compound are gathered around Steve and Bucky.

"What is it, Steve? You don't look so good," Wanda say gently.

"We have some news," Steve says, finding his confidence and standing up. The group gives him confused looks. He silently takes Bucky's hand in his. There are mixed reactions. Thor, Tony, and Bruce look confused, Natasha and Sam smile knowingly, Clint and Rhodey give looks of approval, and Wanda looks like she's going to cry.

"That's not all," Bucky says, glancing at Steve. The two pull their chains over their heads. They slide the rings off and drop the chains to the coffee table. They both slip the rings onto their left ring fingers. Again, there are mixed reactions. Wanda, Sam and Clint gasp loudly, Bruce, Natasha, and Rhodes smile bigger, Thor continues to look confused, and Tony looks mildly annoyed. Steve begins to get worried that his friend won't approve.

"So, what you're saying is, those sounds I heard a couple weeks ago were not you two working out after a bout of nightmares, it was..." he trails off, making the group laugh and the tension lighten.

"Thank you," Bucky whispers to Steve.

"I love you," Steve says, out loud, for everyone to hear. Bucky offers a one-sided smile, trying to keep the tears at bay.

"I love you, too, Steve."

its short, and I wrote it at two am, but its cute, I like it. and I felt like you could use a break after all the supernatural content.

I usually write these in my notes and then copy+paste them here. so, obviously, I have to title them to keep them organized, and the title i made for this one (didn't make the final cut, but regardless) is hilarious. I titled it: "
