"Do I have to be Slytherin to like Draco?" I ask Luna.
"You're family already hates you because you're Ravenclaw and not Gryffindor. Don't push it," she says.
"But Draco is so pretty. Look at his hair!" Draco Malfoy was currently yelling at Harry Potter for something. Luna gets up from the table and leaves the Great Hall.
"I'm going to go talk to him," I whisper to myself. I get up from the table and start walking over to the Slytherin table.
"Who do we have here? Definitely not a Potter, not a Weasley-," Draco starts.
"Actually, I am a Weasley." I correct him. "Veronica Weasley."
"What?" Draco says, visibly shocked. My lack of freckles and blonde hair makes my sister and most of my brothers hate me. Only my parents, Ron, Fred, and George associate with me. No one ever knows I'm a Weasley. Percy enjoys bossing me around.
"Ron and I are twins. Fraternal, of course. Not identical like Fred and George," I inform him. Ron groans and puts his head in his hands.
"Why'd you go and tell him that?" Ron groans again.
"Leave me alone, Ronald."
"Bloody hell," Ron whimpers and puts his head on the table.
"So you're really a Weasley?" Draco asks incredulously.
"I can send an owl to get my birth certificate, if you want."
"Well I don't believe you're a Weasley," he says. "And I would like to meet you at the broomshed after tomorrow's Quidditch match." This he whispers so Ron can't hear.
"See you there," I whisper back. I grab Ron's quill, who doesn't notice because his head is on the table still. I quickly write a note to my mother, requesting my birth certificate. My owl, Rowena, takes the note and flys off through an open window.
...
I'm standing at the back of the broomshed, waiting for Draco.
"Miss Weasley, may I ask exactly what you're doing?" It was McGonagall.
"Sorry, Professor McGonagall, I was waiting for Ron," I lie.
"Alright, but I want you both inside before eleven."
McGonagall walks away as Draco approaches.
"Hey baby," he says, and I blush.
"Hey Drac," I push my blonde hair behind my ear. His green eyes spark at the movement and the nickname.
"Do you still want to see my birth certificate? I just received it today," I say.
"Give me time to give you benefit of the doubt." He stands closer to me, our faces inches away. Butterflies swarm around in my stomach. He closes the distance, and my lips dance over his. For a split second, life is good.
"Veronica Weasley!" Ron shouts.
"Ron." I roll my eyes as Draco pulls away.
"Roni, where are you?" Ron says. Draco hides around the corner of the building as Ron comes into view.
"There you are! Come on!" Ron says.
"I'm waiting for Luna," I lie again.
"Oh. Well I'll see you later then."
"Probably tomorrow."
Ron leaves and Draco emerges from the shadows. He kisses me again and again. He turns to leave, but I stop him.
"Do you still want to see my birth certificate?" I ask.
"No. I feel like I can trust you. If you say you're a Weasley, then I believe you. Even though I hate your brothers." He laughs. He offers me his elbow, and I wrap my hand around it. He leads us back to the castle. Ron is standing at the door when we get there. Draco and I immediately push each other away.
"Get off me Malfoy," I say. I walk over to my brother.
"You know you want me," he says, making kissy noises.
"Leave her alone, Draco," Ron says sternly. When Ron's back is turned, I wave at Draco and smile. He smiles back and gives a small wave before following us in and turning in a different direction.
That night, I snuck out and met Draco in the astronomy tower. He brought a few things from the kitchen, and we snuggled while eating our picnic. Two hours later, we decided to go back to bed. I hear a noise outside.
"What is it, Mrs. Norris?"
"Filch!' I whisper. Draco takes my hand and hides us behind a curtain. Filch makes a quick sweep of the room but, to our luck doesn't check in depth. Draco peeks his head put from around the curtain.
"It's clear," he says. Still holding my hand, he leads us out into the corridor. He takes me back to the entrance of the Ravenclaw tower. I answer the riddle and sneak back in after giving Draco a quick peck on the lips.
...
When I see Draco the next day at breakfast, he looks tired, but he has a small smile on his face the whole time. I look at him without him noticing.
"What are you looking at?" Ron says, mking me jump.
"You aren't supposed to be here," I say. "This table is for Ravenclaws only."
"You're my sister. McGonagall won't mind."
"If you must know, you nosy twit, I was looking at Draco. He looks tired, what do you think is causing it?" I ask, even though I know the answer.
"I don't know. Why do you even care?"
"Just wondering, Ron." I turn back to my food on the table and Ron walks away. Fred and George come up to me next.
"Little birdie told me you were smooching Malfoy behind the broomshed yesterday," George begins.
"I was the birdie." Is all Fred adds.
"Don't tell Ron!" Is all I respond. "Now leave, I'm starving."
Fred and George run off back to the Gryffindor table. Fred whispers something to Ron and his face goes red. Ron gets up and walks over to the Slytherin table. He says something to Draco that I can't hear and Draco stands up, making me stand up.
"Ronald Weasley, don't even think of laying a finger on Draco!" I shout, knowing my twin brother better than anyone. I could see the hateful look in his eyes. "And Fred and George Weasley, we need to talk!" I death stare them. I walk over to Ron and Draco.
"Go sit down," I say to Ron. When he doesn't, I add, "Now."
"Thanks Roni. I really wanted to fight your brother, but I'm glad you stopped it. I can't lose anymore points for Slytherin." He laughs.
And with great courage, I pull Draco forward by his collar and kiss him in front of the entire school.
Bravery isn't just a Gryffindor thing.
