THE CONSTANT BEEP OF the heart monitor lulled Ximena to calm down. This was about the third time Logan was placed in her medical care and she still hadn't gotten used to it. Nor did she ever want to.
She sighed to herself, tying her hair into a low bun in frustration to get it out of her face. Mostly, she was frustrated with herself for feeling this way for Logan. Now that the adrenaline was gone and his body was stabilized, she still felt the after affects of her panic.
Ximena wasn't simply fearing for his life. She was afraid she'd lose him, like she lost Daniel. Such an epiphany jarred her usually easy-going mannerisms.
Logan gasped awake on the medical bed, drawing Ximena out of her thoughts. She walked around the bed, leaning over him with a mixture of emotions marring her beautiful features. Concern was on the forefront, that much Logan could plainly see. He closed his eyes to get them adjusted to the bright lights, calming down from the excitement.
"What happened?" He muttered incoherently.
Ximena performed her routine checks, lifting a small torch to check his pupils. Logan winced under her indifferent ministrations, watching her warily. "Is she alright?"
"Rogue is fine. Of course, I've spoken to her -- teacher to student -- about coming into a grown mans bedroom in the middle of the night no matter what she heard..." Ximena sighed, calming herself down. "But she's in perfect health, unlike yourself."
"What did she do to me?" Logan groaned, moving around at an aching pace to his side.
Doctor Dominguez wrote down his report, arching her brows knowingly at the chart. "She siphoned your life force... Whenever Rogue touches someone, she takes their energy. In your case, she can even absorb gifts for a periodic time. Meaning, your ability to heal."
"I feel like she almost killed me." The heart monitor beeped to fill the sudden silence. Ximena pursed her lips, averting her eyes from her chart to his face.
"You almost did," Her chest raised with a sharp inhale. The emotions swimming in her cocoa orbs was startling. "Had she held on a near few second more."
Logan grew serious. His face growing dark as he looked over her face. He reached for her wrist, pulling her closer till she was perched on the edge of the bed by his side. Logan's lip twitched to lighten the mood failingly, taking from the side of his mouth. "Guess I'm damn lucky, huh?"
This caused Ximena to scoff, her eyes rolling in utter annoyance. However, he squeezed her wrist, persuading her gaze back on him. "You were worried about me?"
