"Cristina go to my room we need to talk"

"Okay"

"Kids stay here and do your homework," I said heading up the stairs. I went to my room and sat with Cristina on my bed.

"Look I'm sorry. You hate me okay I get it. I boss everyone around but I do it because if I don't you'll get older and think it's okay to do stuff you aren't supposed to do. Cristina, you are getting older you are becoming a teen but I will not allow that kind of attitude you had yesterday" I said putting a hand on her shoulder.

"I know and I'm really sorry I- I don't know what happened," She said bursting into tears. I pulled her in for a tight hug.

"Why won't you let us stay with dad instead of with you. You are young and have a full life ahead of you. You need to think of college."

"I never wanted to tell you but Derek told me I had too"

"Tell me what"

"Thatcher, Dad, used to hit me a lot. No one else was born I was an only child Mom was at work so he took care of me. Well that's what everyone thought"

"What else did he do Mer I can tell there's more"

"He would touch me in places I've told you boys can't touch without permission. He violated me... many times"

"Oh Mer! That's horrible. But he doesn't seem like that anymore"

"He looks like he has changed I'll admit that but my trust for him is long gone. So whatever you don't be in a room alone with him okay?"

"Got it. Again I'm sorry about last night"

"Okay go do your homework" we chuckled

1 Month Later

Today is Friday, April 19th George gets his cast off. It's also Alex and Cristina's birthday. they are turning 12. After I take George to get his cast off we will pick up the cupcakes for Alex and Cristina's class. I didn't go to school today because I have finished my work for this week.

Derek is still in New York he said his parents wanted to stay and look at what else New York offered. George and I walked into the hospital and he finally got his cast off! We left the hospital and went to the bakery.

I picked up the cupcakes which were just regular chocolate and vanilla with blue and red frosting. I took them to their class and I saw Cristina pick the best-looking cupcake and give it to a boy with ginger hair.

The teacher told me she wanted to talk with me in the hallway so I left George with Alex.

"Are you their legal Guardian"

"Why do you ask?"

"I've seen you pick and drop them off. you seem young I mean I get it if you are a mom you just seem young"

"I'm their sister. I'm 18"

"This seems too personal but where are their parents"

"Mom died a month ago and dad walked out again"

"Are you planning to adopt them or something? I did with my sister"

"I am, Actually I'm waiting to see if I become their legal guardian I get the results on Monday"

"That's in 3 days!"

"Yep! If you don't mind me asking why did you adopt your sister?"

"Oh no not at all my parents were abusive and I was afraid they would hurt her so when I turned 18 I went to court and fought for custody"
