"So, Londyn, how long have you worked at the doctor's office?" Mr. Leone asks as Miss Jay walks away.
"Um, I've been there for three years now, sir," I reply, picking at the hem of my long sleeve shirt nervously.
"Please call me Alecsander, not sir,: he replies with a fond smile at me.
"Okay, I will try," I say as that is a hard thing for me to do. "What do you do for a living, si- Alecsander?"
He frowns at me before answering; "I'm a lawyer at my uncle's law firm. I've been there for four years now."
"That's nice," I reply with a forced smile - Mum's boss is a lawyer, and she was his receptionist.
"What law firm do you work with?" I force out through my nervousness.
Miss Adelle and Alecsander each give me a weird look as Alecsander says; "Leone and Ackles Law Firm."
Sighing softly as the man mum hooked up with his last name is Striker.
"What's your uncle's name?" Landyn asks looking up from his coloring.
"His name is Adam," Alecsander replies with a smile at Landyn.
Landyn smiles back at him as my boy says; "My uncle's name is Luke Martian."
"Is Luke your brother, Londyn?" Miss Adelle asks confused as I'm sure she is thinking of Luke, who also works at the doctor's office.
Shaking my head with a soft smile; "No ma'am, he isn't my brother. Luke and I have been best friends since we were small children."
"Is this the same Luke from the doctor's office?" Adelle asks with a smile.
"That's my uncle Luke!" Landyn says proudly while bouncing on his bum with a wide grin.
"Yes, that Luke," I confirm with a broad smile as Miss Jay returns with our drinks and food on a tray.
"Here you are, lovelies," she says while placing everything on the table with a smile at the four of us.
"Thank you, Miss Jay. The pizza smells awesome as every," I grin right back at her as I take an deep, appreciative inhale of the aoroma coming off the steaming food.
"Well thank you, Lon," she says before glancing at Adelle and Alecsander. "Are they your brother and mum?"
My body flushes a bright pink color as I answer; "No ma'am, they are my new friends. I don't know where my mother is, and I'm an only child. Well, as far as I know, I'm an only child."
Not meeting their gazes once I've finished speaking as I shouldn't have explained more than what was asked. I can't believe I just word vomited to people who don't need to know this information about me.
"Well, you know I love you like a son, and Landyn like a granbaby," Miss Jay softly says with a tender smile.
"Thanks, I appreciate that," I murmur with a slight smile at her, and she walks away after gently squeezing my right shoulder.
Everyone at the table is quiet for a few seconds before Landyn speaks up by asking; "Papa, can I have a slice, please?"
"You sure can, baby," I reply, quickly taking the pizza spatula to remove a slice from the tray, and place it on his plate. "Do you want me to cut it for you?"
"No, thanks papa," he grins up at me as he leaves the slice on the plate to blow on it so it cools down.
"Londyn, may I ask you a personal question?" Adelle asks near the end of the meal after we've been talking throughout dinner.
"Sure, I guess," I agree with a shrug of my shoulders.
"Where is Landyn's mummy?" she gently asks glancing briefly at my son before looking back at me.
Swallowing thickly around the lump of emotions, I'm about to answer, but Landyn beats me to it by saying; "I don't have a mummy. Marcy is my sir-goat."
"Surrogate, baby, but I'm glad you remember," I gently correct with a praise and a smile at the end.
Landyn hums around his mouthfull of food at me as I glance at the other two adults, who look surprised at Landyn's response.
"Marcy sounds like a lovely person. Is she where he gets his beautiful blond hair from?" Alecsander asks gently as if he's not believing the surrogate answer.
"Yeah, she has blond hair like Landyn's," I answer him, leary now of giving him any more information.
I don't need him snooping around into Marcy, trying to find her, and trying to talk to her, or something like that.
"Hey, I'm not going to do what you're thinking I'm going to do," Alecsander gently says while looking intently into my eyes.
"What do you think I'm thinking?" I question with a raised left eyebrow.
He smirks at me as he leans forward to rest his elbows on the table, never breaking eye contact with me as he replies; "You think I'm going to try and find her, and talk to her."
When I remain silent, Adelle looks between us nervously while Landyn finishes his pizza slice.
"I'm not going to pry into your life right now, but I know you are not being one hundred percent honest," he softly says so Landyn cannot hear him.
Leaning back against my chair, I cross my arms over my chest in silent defiance.
"Thanks for inviting us to dinner, it's been great," I say as I pull my wallet from my back left pocket of my dark denim jeans to pay for our share of the bill.
"You are welcome, and I am paying the bill since I invited you and Landyn," Alecsander's gruff accented voice instantly replies.
"That is okay, I pay for Landyn and me no matter what," I reply while placing cash for our share on the table to cover half the pizza, Landyn's chocolate milk, my soda, and half the tip.
Standing up as does Landyn, who takes my right hand in his left, I tell my son; "Say thank you and goodbye."
Landyn grins over at Adelle and Alecsander as he happily says; "Than you, and bye-bye!"
We walk out of the door, and my nerves are shot at the prospect of whatever Alecsander would do if he found out the truth about Marcy. What he would think of me for being with someone who turned out the way she did toward our son.
