Surprise...I guess?

We said our goodbyes and made our way to the car, my heart fluttering as I scrambled my brain to work out what me surprise was. I sat there, in the front seat of the car,  making a list of all the possible answers. My facial expression must have betrayed me as Tom looked over at me from the corner of his eyes.

"You won't guess."

"Urgh. Why do you have to be so unfair?" I mocked, a giggle forcing it's way up my throat. "You know I don't like surprises."

"You like this one." He said, his cheeky grin almost too much for my heart to handle.  The indicator clicked and I sat there in silence, biting my lip and fondling my hands.

Surprise...

As the car pulled into the drive, I hastily pushed the button on my seat belt and opened the car door.

"Calm down," Tom said, his voice worried and low, "I don't think I've ever seen you so excited!"

"Well, there's a surprise behind that door and for ten minutes I've been waiting to find out what it is. My mind is bursting with questions, please just let me in already!"

He unlocked the door to our house and I rushed in, puppy like and irratating.

"Well?"

"Through there." He said, lifting his arm and smiling. I grinned back and opened the door to the dining room slowly.

"Oh my-" my voice faded into a whisper as I felt my eyes widen at the sight before me. The entire dining room had been decorated with rose petals and candles. Around the edges of the room, fairy lights hung suspended in air and a soft melody played in the background. Yet another one of my favourite tracks, 'Love Is Easy' by Mcfly. Yes I was obsessed with this band as I had grown up with their music and had learnt to live my life by it. I bit my lip and smiled. A wave suddenly washed over me as the most delightful smell came floating in through the gap of the door.

"Smells goodd" I said dragging out the d and grinning. My eyes wandered over to Tom, who was smiling at his work.

"Yeah it does. Like you...?" He frowned and I bit my lip again, swallowing my laughter.

Then I sniffed again and frowned. "Wait is that burni-"

"Shit!" I watched as Tom, still wearing his coat and scarf, ran into the kitchen and turned down all the nobs on the oven. He reached into the oven and pulled out a near cremated  casserole. Through the closed door, I could hear the man sigh. Then a clang and then a curse. "Do you want help?" I said, already knowing the answer. I heard him sigh again and I turned around when he poked his head around the door frame. "What? Noooo."

He shook his head violently and moved towards the kitchen again, before spinning around on his heels to say, "I'm not really in the mood for a casserole anymore." He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth as he thought. I could sense the awkwardness and tried to break the silence. "How about pizza? My treat."

He tutted and I could hear his voice quivering with disappointment. "I wanted to treat you for a change." I sighed, smiled and leant my head to the side. "You always treat me. I never look after you properly though." I placed my hands on his shoulders, stood on my tiptoes and kissed his forehead. "Do you want me to tidy up?" I said, leaning around the the corner of the doorframe.

"Ehehe, no you're erm-" he leaned back and pulled the door shut. "You're alright thanks. I'll," he coughed. "I'll deal with that."

I squinted and smiled. "Rightttt. Pizza it is then?"
