I braced myself for questions about what Deku had seen that morning. Then he started talking.

"Y/N, I don't know how to tell you this..." He said nervously, eyes shifting around the people passing in the hall. My mind began racing, trying to think up a better excuse for why I had been in Shouta's room, or maybe a way to deflect some of the blow would be better, not accepting nor denying. I puzzled over this in the spare second between this and how he finished the sentence.

"... but I like you." And with that, my mind went blank. Um what? He rushed on. "Now, I know we don't talk too much, but you seem sweet and I would like to go on a d-date with you if you are open to that." Wow. He had definitely never asked out a girl before. But he was right. We talk daily, but just to exchange greetings and the likes. How could he possibly like me? He knows almost nothing about me. I didn't have time to think about this, the silence had already gone on for far too long.

"I- um." Wow, that was a great start. Keep up the great work, I thought to myself. I silently cursed my awkwardness. "Wow, erm... would you mind giving me a couple of days to think about it? And then I could get back to you?"

His innocence was unwavering as he smiled sheepishly, flashing me a thumbs-up. "S-sounds good! Well, see you later!" I noticed that his confident facade was gone, leaving the stuttering mess of a person we all know and love. He practically spirited away, leaving me standing, still confused, in front of Shota's classroom.

That came the hell out of left field. Still, I breathed a sigh of relief. He was a tiny bit too stupid to question my presence in the teachers' dorms at dawn. Good. Now, how to deal with this...

...

The next day was a difficult game of trying to pay attention in class rather than watch Midoriya. I didn't like him or anything, I just thought it was interesting that he would confess to me when he did. It was almost as if he himself didn't know why he liked me. After class, Mr. Aizawa pulled me aside. We waited to speak until everybody had filed out, the door shutting behind them.

"Y/N, I notice a lot of things," he started, seeming to choose his words carefully. "Since yesterday, it seems that something has been off. Not to mention how you kept staring at him through class." Was that a hint of... jealousy? His eyes, usually calm, even tired, were filled with it. I almost laughed at the idea that a grown man would be jealous of a high school boy, but I decided not to point out the childishness of it. Instead, I gave in, deciding to tell him the truth rather than leave him annoyedly guessing.

"Shota, Deku confessed to me yesterday," his eyes widened, "and honestly I'm just trying to figure out how to answer."

"How to answer?" He growled, "how to answer? You mean a way to let him down gently?" With that, he had cornered me to the point where my back was flat against the blackboard. His eyes had begun to glow red in the dark classroom, glaring into my face with envy.

"O-of course!" I exclaimed, still finding it humorous that he would ever think otherwise. He slowly relaxed, leveling his breathing. And unexpectedly, he smirked.

"I have something to give you." Out of his pocket, he produced a small key. Silently, he made his way over to his desk, knelt down, and inserted the key into a lock on the topmost drawer. He then pulled out a small object. I could barely make it out, but it looked like a necklace of sorts. As he got closer, I realized what it was, a blush crept to my cheeks.

"I was saving this for later," he started, fiddling with it, "but now I'm thinking it's time I declared you as mine. You need to remember who you belong to." He fixed the collar around my neck, sliding his fingers down to clamp them around my neck. He smiled wider and pulled me close, planting a sloppy kiss on my mouth. He let go of my neck, letting me breathe.

"What does it say?" I whispered, realizing I hadn't seen what had been engraved on the small tag. He drew close again, putting his lips to my ear.

"Love," he whispered huskily. My blush intensified. That word always knew how to burrow in my heart and melt me from the inside. I smiled softly.

"I'll break the bad news to Deku after school," said as I scooted past him to gather my bag.

"I love you," he said, turning back to lock the drawer. I had wanted to see what else was in there.

Smiling, I replied, "I love you too, Shota," as I whirled out the door and to lunch.
