I walk into Los Feliz High School a couple days before the spirit rally seeing Carrie, our head cheerleader and lead singer of the pop group Dirty Candy walking around the entrance and the cafeteria handing out flyers.

"Hey Y/N," she greeted me with a smile, "here's a flyer for me and the girls' performance in a couple days!"

"Hey C," I reply also smiling, "yeah I'll be there! Don't you worry about it!

"Thanks girl," Carrie says as she walks away.

Carrie Wilson is the daughter of a singer Trevor Wilson. He had an amazing first album, but then his music took a turn. Carrie and I have been best friends since I can remember. I helped her out when her mom left her and her dad in middle school, while she helped me cope with the fact I had no father. Carrie and I also used to be best friends with a girl named Julie Molina.

Julie had it rough too. Her mother, Rose passed away a year ago and she hasn't sang or played a note in music class since. I feel bad for her. She loved music and now it just makes her sad because of her mom. I see her and Flynn talking by their lockers so I walk over there. I am going to wish Julie good luck because today is her last day to stay in the music program.

"Hey Julie! Hey Flynn," I say with a smile, "Julie, I just wanted to come over here and wish you good luck today in music class!"

"Like she'll need it!" Flynn replies, "She's going to absolutely rock it!"

"Oh I know she will," I say giving both of them fist bumps.

I hated that Carrie and Julie couldn't be friends. Carrie knew what it was like losing a mom, but as soon as Julie started getting all of the attention, she treated Julie like a worst enemy, not a best friend. Carrie couldn't accept the fact that other people could get some attention. That's why she insisted on having the spirit rally on the anniversary of Rose's death.

I stumble into my first period of the day, music class. The first participant of the day is Nick, Carrie's boyfriend. He's an amazing athlete and he shreds on the guitar. As he finishes we all know that Julie is next. Our teacher says she's our final participant of the day, which means after we will be learning more music theory.

Julie stands to her feet and walks over to the piano. She flips the cover and puts her fingers over the keys. She pulls her fingers back like she's touched something hot. Flynn stands up, I do the same when I realized what was happening.

Julie just looks at us and Carrie says "Is this where we clap or?" And Julie goes running out of the room.

Flynn replies with what I was thinking, "Watch it Carrie."

Flynn and I follow Julie outside to the stairwell. Julie sees that I'm following her as well as Flynn and she stops. She stopped and then she sits with her back against the wall and her head in her hands. She was obviously crying, she just missed her one chance to get back into the music program.
