Part 31: 2018 - What was I supposed to do?😭

"Harry, please call me back or better yet get your arse to Bradford mate." Louis hissed into the phone. Zayn was currently sat frozen at the dining room table.

The younger lad was still trying to wrap his head around what Theo was asking of him. He wanted to stay with Zayn... stay with him and do all of the milestones he wanted to reach until he died. Then when he died Zayn would be free to do what ever he wanted? That didn't sound like a very fair deal, Zayn wanted to be with Harry. He wanted to move to London and be a happy family for once. But he couldn't be that selfish could he? Theo deserved to have the life he wanted even if it's only for a year.

Right?

"L-Louis he won't be able to answer until after the interview." Zayn whimpered.
"S-shit I have no idea what's going on? H-how did that just happen?."

"I'm so sorry this is happening lad... I know this isn't the best situation to find yourself in." Louis soothed , wrapping an arm around his shoulders.

"I-I I just- I needed a minute you know? I feel bad asking him to leave for a while but what else was I supposed to do?! He just caught me completely off guard with this."

"Where did he go? He doesn't know anyone around here?"

Zayn sighed shakily , shrugging his shoulders.
"I-I don't know."

"Oh fuck." Louis replied.
"Maybe he went your mums? He's erm close to her right? I mean they get along?"

"Sort of but she doesn't know what's happening so I doubt he went there. I'm thinking maybe a cafe or something."

"You don't sound that worried?"

"I'm not, no offence to him but he's put more important things on my mind than where he's disappearing to." The panicked teen responded.

"I mean that's fair enough I guess." His best friend stated. "I'll keep trying Harry though ok? You need him here."

"H-he's going to be devastated, god I can't do this too him Lou, he's never going to forgive me if I stay with Theo." Zayn sobbed.

"Hey.. I think he'll get it. Lad you've been placed in an impossible situation. Either way you're hurting somebody. Maybe you can do the best of both? Keep seeing Harry but have Theo live here still?"

"But Theo wants to complete his life milestones Louis! I can't marry him whilst dating Harry!"

"I don't know! I'm trying to help here!" Louis defended raising his arms.

"Nothing will help... I never wanted to lose either of them. Now I have no choice in losing Theo and it's breaking my heart. I can't let him die without me by his side. I can't."

Louis' heart shattered at the sight of the distraught boy. He'd never seen Zayn so broken before, not even when he found out he was pregnant.
"I honestly think Harry will respect that Z. It's a year! You're doing a favour for a dying lad who quite literally worships the ground you work on. There's no harm in that."

"But I love Harry. He's all I want , day in, day out. The thought of him completely walking away from this, as bad as it sounds ...is worse than the thought of Theo dying." He choked out.
"How selfish can I be?"

"Sometimes we have to be selfish Zayn. Sometimes putting our happiness first is what we need to do. Life isn't easy , but once you put all of the negativity aside and stop caring what others think... the reward is YOUR life. If you want your life to be one where you're loved by Harry then so be it."

Zayn knew he was right, he had to figure this out. He needed Theo to come back. He needed to set a plan. There are things he's struggled through the past few years that make this seem minor. He can survive anything and he would find a way to do this.
