/the song is demons by imagine dragons/
Jordan squinted her eyes at me and scanned me up and down carefully as if deciding whether I was worthy of knowing their almighty secrets. I didn't really want a life story, I was just worried about Phil and his 'illness'. I didn't say anything because although I
hated to admit it, the two girls sat in front of me seemed quite intimidating and I didn't think I fancied another slap after the one that Izzy gave me.
'Why tell him? Can't see anything special about him' Gaby spoke in a clear, precise voice which made me jump slightly as she hadn't uttered more than one word since I had met her
'He uh... Well we were dating And um now we're not but he deserves to know. Dan's my friend'
The word friend hit me like a titanium bullet sending shock waves through my system. Friends. Not even best friends, just friends.
Jordan sighed and shook her head, blue hair feathering across her broad shoulders.
'Fine. You can start, it is your story after all'
Phil nodded and mouthed a quick thank you to the girl who leaned forward and squeezed his forearm.
Maybe she wasn't so scary after all.
'It all started after you..you left' Phil began, looking down at his frayed skinny jeans 'I got ill again. Well actually ill doesn't really cover it; I stopped eating for a month which put a huge strain on my heart and I had a heart attack which led to cardiac arrest. My heart stopped but they managed to get me back' he paused for a second and looked up at me through his fringe. I offered out a hand which the boy took and held tightly before continuing 'I was sent back to the hospital once I was better and put me into intensive care. That's where I met Jordan and Gaby. Th-'
'And Jasmine' Gaby cut in, finally tearing her gase from the window 'you met Jasmine too Phil'
'Y-yeah and Jaz... Anyway, I wasn't getting better and neither were those three so one day a specialist doctor came in and took us into an interview room. He showed us this drug, one that had never been tested on humans before, it was to help us get better and develop an appetite and allow us to eat. The doctor explained the precautions we had to take as we would be the first humans ever to test them. We all agreed, after all we didn't have much to live for, but Jasmine was more skeptical. Eventually she agreed and we were all put on the drugs. Everything was great for the first few months, we were gaining weight and feeling much happier, that was until we went for our monthly checks. The nurse told us something was wrong and we all gathered in that same interview room. She sat us down and told us to stay calm but by this point we were...we were just s-so...so..' Phil chocked back a sob and I rubbed his hand gently.
'Phil? Come on, I'll carry on, yeah?'
Phil nodded and Jordan flicked back her hair and went to speak but Gaby cut in
'Actually, I think I might want to carry on'
Jordan looked shocked but she just shrugged and gestured for Gaby to continue.
'As Phil was saying, we were all freaking out. We had no idea what was going on but eventually she did get us settled down and she explained everything. The nurse said a lot but the main point was that the drugs had given us all cancer.'
I gasped, interrupting Gaby and looked over at Phil who had fat tears erupting from his eyes. I pulled him into my chest where he sighed and sniffled. Jordan raised an eyebrow and smirked slightly before letting Gaby carry on.
'We didn't all have the same types of cancer. I have breast cancer and am preparing for an operation next week. Jordan has a tumour in her stomach which is being treated with chemotherapy. Jasmine and Phil were both diagnosed with severe brain cancer.'
I hugged the boy closer and let a few tears slide down my face before asking a burning question.
'Where's Jasmine?'
Gaby looked up and straight into my eyes, , making me shiver
'Heaven. The brain cancer killed her, just like it will kill Phil '/okay wow what I'm sorry don't hurt me/
